Today marks the kickoff of the 23rd annual Gur Singh Golf Tournament and we couldn’t let the day pass without celebrating executive director Dave Johnson, who was honoured with a plaque for 10 years of service.

Anyone who knows Dave knows he’s as quick with a dad joke as he is with a helping hand, and that mix of humour and genuine care is exactly what’s made him such a fixture at KBIA.

If last year was any indication, Friday is going to be a good one.

We’re just days away from the 23rd Annual Gur Singh Memorial Golf Tournament, and we could not be more excited to get back on the course.

The golfers. The sponsors. The games. The laughs. The community that shows up year after year to support KBIA.

We can’t wait to see everyone on Friday.

In 2003, a casual dinner conversation changed everything. Dr. Vishwanath Malliah suggested to Dr. Gur Singh that he start a golf tournament to support the Kamloops Brain Injury Association. Dr. Singh hadn’t heard of KBIA before, but a conversation with head nurse Mary Dmytriw convinced him it was a cause worth backing.

In 2004, the inaugural KBIA Golf Tournament teed off at Rivershore Golf Links, raising about $17,000. Support grew fast — by 2006 a second round was added, and in 2010 the tournament moved to The Dunes at Kamloops to keep pace with demand.

Following Dr. Singh’s death in 2015, the tournament was renamed in his honour. Today, the Gur Singh Memorial Golf Tournament stands as one of Kamloops’ largest fundraisers, carrying his vision forward each year.
