Emotional abuse can happen quietly through fear, manipulation, humiliation, threats, or isolation. While there may be no visible injuries, the impact can be lasting.

For many older adults, abuse comes from someone they know or trust, making it even harder to recognize or report. Changes in behaviour, withdrawal from loved ones, anxiety, or sudden loss of confidence can all be warning signs.

Supporting seniors starts with awareness, connection, and listening without judgment.

If something feels wrong, trust your instincts. Your information could help protect someone vulnerable, you can leave an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-222-8477 or go online to bccrimestoppers.com

Education is one of the strongest tools we have. Learning the signs of senior abuse, understanding the risks of fraud and scams, and knowing how to report concerns helps protect the people who have spent a lifetime caring for others.

Let’s continue building a community where seniors feel safe, supported, and empowered.

File 2026-15082

A man faces new charges after a visit to the local detachment on an unrelated matter led to an arrest and seizure.

On May 15, 2026, shortly after 4:00 p.m., a man attended the Kamloops RCMP Detachment on an unrelated, non-criminal matter. The man was subsequently observed by police entering a white Honda CR-V with an alleged regulatory infraction, instigating a vehicle stop. However, the driver allegedly fled in the vehicle through a residential area, evading police. Out of concerns for public safety, police did not pursue the suspect further.

On May 17, 2026, the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit located the CR-V near the suspect’s residence. The vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen in Kamloops on May 2, 2026. Additional investigation further established an alleged link between the suspect and the vehicle, culminating in his arrest.

During the arrest as well as the subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized keys to the stolen CR-V, a suppressor and other items.

Sean Kevin Goudie has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5000, possession of a prohibited device knowing it is unauthorized, and mischief in relation to the lawful use of property. Goudie was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26, 2026.
