It isn't a great sign when the mail carrier doesn't want to use your front staircase.

This staircase had become unsafe due to extensive rot, creating a hazard for both the homeowner and visitors. Through our Critical Home RePair program, we removed the damaged structure and installed a safe, sturdy new staircase that will serve this homeowner for years to come.

A safe home starts with safe access. Whether it's a rotten staircase, damaged deck, leaking roof, or other critical repairs, our Home RePair team is here to help.

🎉📚 What an incredible couple of weeks celebrating our Meaning of Home Grand Prize Winners and runner-up across Nova Scotia!

Our team had the privilege of visiting schools in Halifax and Inverness to recognize the outstanding students whose heartfelt entries earned national recognition in Habitat for Humanity Canada's Meaning of Home contest, organized by Habitat for Humanity Canada.

During each visit, we shared presentations with their classmates about the contest and the impact it has on families in our communities. We also celebrated with pizza parties for the entire class, because achievements like these deserve to be shared! 🍕🎈

A special congratulations to:
✨ Julia S. of Halifax, Grade 4 Grand Prize Winner for My New Home
✨ Harlow M. of Inverness, Grade 5 Grand Prize Winner for Beautifully Messy
✨ Asif A. of Dartmouth, Grade 6 Runner-Up for Moza is Home

Each winning student received an iPad in recognition of their remarkable achievement, and they are immensely proud of the impact their words have made.

We are also grateful to the representatives from our sponsoring organizations - Dustin from BrokerLink, Carlos from Stantec, and Bailey from BMO - who joined us for some of these celebrations. Your support helps make opportunities like this possible and encourages young people to see how their voices can create meaningful change.

Most importantly, thank you to the students, teachers, families, and school communities who embraced this year's contest. Through their creativity and compassion, Nova Scotia students helped raise an incredible $89,660 to support affordable housing in our province.

Congratulations to our Grand Prize Winners, our runner-up, and every student who shared what home means to them. Your words are helping build brighter futures for local families. 🩵🏡

What a fantastic day at our ReStore Dartmouth! 🔨✨

We were thrilled to welcome two volunteer teams from Aviva, who rolled up their sleeves and spent a beautiful sunny day building garden beds and patio furniture for our ReStore. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and hard work helped create valuable additions for our customers while supporting Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia's work to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable housing.

Beyond the projects completed, the day was filled with laughter, collaboration, and meaningful team bonding. We are incredibly grateful to the Aviva team for choosing to spend their time making a difference in our community.

🎉 Nova Scotia students are making a national impact! 🏡❤️

This year, students across our province were recognized in Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Meaning of Home contest, an inspiring annual writing competition that invites students to share what 'home' means to them through stories and poems.

A huge congratulations to:
✨ Julia S. from Halifax — Grade 4 grand prize winner for her entry My New Home
✨ Harlow M. from Inverness — Grade 5 grand prize winner for her entry Beautifully Messy
✨ Asif A. from Dartmouth — Grade 6 runner-up for his entry Moza is Home

Through their incredible submissions, these students helped raise an amazing $89,666 for Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia, supporting local families in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Across Canada, more than 19,000 students participated this year, collectively raising $440,000 for local Habitat organizations nationwide. Since 2007, Meaning of Home has empowered more than 156,000 students to turn their creativity into real change for families and communities.

Thank you to every student, teacher, parent, and supporter who helped make this year’s contest such a success. Your words are helping build brighter futures across Nova Scotia and beyond. 💙

Recently, our team completed a critical repair for a senior homeowner in Lower Sackville whose front steps and landing had become severely deteriorated and unsafe. With the home’s only entrance posing a serious safety risk, our team removed the damaged structure and built new, secure steps and a landing to restore safe access to the home.

Through Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia’s Home RePair Program, critical repairs like these help homeowners continue living safely, independently, and with dignity in the homes they love. From accessibility upgrades and exterior repairs to critical safety improvements, the program is designed to support homeowners facing barriers to maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.

Projects like this are made possible through the continued support of our community and the funds generated through the Habitat Home RePair Program.
