Our Story

Founded in 2000 by record-setting NHL Coach Rick Bowness in collaboration with retired NHL'ers Mike McPhee, Errol Thompson and Tony Currie along with a group of business leaders in the Halifax area. Maritime NHLers for Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing long-term, sustainable funding to help ease the financial and social burdens preventing young maritime boys and girls from playing minor hockey. Over the past 20 years, with the collaboration of sponsors, corporate teams, celebrity guests and unwavering volunteers, as many as 6,000 young boys and girls have received assistance with registration fees and/or equipment, allowing them to puruse their hockey dreams.

We are also committed to providing young minor hockey boys and girls exposure to new and different role models. Each year over 100 PeeWee and Bantam aged boys and girls enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience assisting our golf teams as “caddies” in the company of business leaders and hockey heroes. To enrich the experience, we have a no-alcohol policy on golf day.

Our celebrity focus is on past, present and future players, coaches, scouts, referees, managers and broadcasters, thereby celebrating the rich hockey history in the Maritimes.
