A recent game I enjoyed involves reconnecting people by delivering goods and building roads and stuff. It's lonely, difficult work, but there are other players out there affecting the world space you're in. Even though you don't see them, you can see the work they've done, and you can add to it, or they can add to yours. You can leave messages of warning or encouragement. There's danger up here, or simply, "Keep on keeping on."

Such a good metaphor for the life of faith.

Keep on keeping on, brothers and sisters.

We all know the phrase "the patience of Job." But if you actually read the book, patience isn't really the word you'd use. Honest, maybe. Raw, definitely. Stubborn in his faith, absolutely.
Job lost everything in a single day and still held on to God. Not because he had it all together. Not because he understood what was happening. But because he knew something his circumstances couldn't take away.
"I know that my Redeemer lives."

One of the most consistent mistakes we make in the Christian life is fighting the wrong enemy.
We go after the person who frustrates us, the situation that's making things hard, the circumstances we can't control. Paul consistently hammers home that's not where the real battle is.
Our struggle isn't against flesh and blood. It's against spiritual forces we can't see, touch, or measure. So, let’s fight the right way.
This week's talk wades into that thought. The spiritual battle is real, the Word and prayer are our weapons; and we aren't fighting for victory, we're fighting from it.

The Hardest Word
What’s the most difficult word in the Bible to our modern sensibilities? If you want to create some uncomfortable shifting in seats, read Ephesians 5:22 out loud in mixed company.
Submit.
Submit always sounds like someone loses. Someone doesn’t get their way. Someone has to give something up.
But that’s so messed up if you actually read what Paul is trying to say.
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Not only that but, my dudes — love your wives the way Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.
Agape.
Sacrificial, self-giving, other-centered love.
I think maybe that’s the hardest word in all the Bible.

Kids imitate their parents whether they mean to or not. The phrases, the habits, the gestures... it just happens when you spend enough time with someone.
Paul opens Ephesians 5 with that exact idea. Be imitators of God as dearly loved children.
Not rules to follow. Not a standard to meet. Just a child spending time with their Father and gradually starting to look like Him.

What not to Wear - Jesus Edition Ephesians 4:17-32
Anyone old enough to remember “What not to wear”. Don’t lie, I know you are. Whether you ever watched it is another matter.
The show was about coaching people to become more practical and fashionable with their attire. Not high fashion, just simple tips on keeping your personality and comfort, but still looking nice. I admit, I kinda liked the show. Maybe because I like loud and flashy colors and patterns and they probably would have liked to coach me. Maybe I’m a closet fashion snob. I dunno.
Paul also wants to coach us on what not to wear. Except he’s more concerned with the spiritual side. Take off your old way of doing things and put on Christlikeness.
That’s what maturity in Jesus looks like; and maturity in Jesus looks good.
"Put on your new nature, created to be like God — truly righteous and holy." — Ephesians 4:24 NLT
