Big news for Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding region! 👏

Planning is officially underway for a new collegiate-style school, a major step forward for students, industry, and our growing community.

With provincial funding committed, the project is moving into the design phase, bringing us closer to a modern Grades 7–12 campus that will replace aging schools and support a rapidly increasing student population.

What makes this especially exciting is the collegiate model, which connects students directly to career pathways in high-demand fields like trades, health care, and energy. This approach aligns education with the needs of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland and helps prepare students for real opportunities in today’s workforce.

This new school will expand access to in-demand careers, strengthen community growth, and support regional development. Beyond education, it’s an investment in the long-term economic sustainability and prosperity of our region and province.

As workforce demands continue to evolve, projects like this ensure our communities stay competitive, resilient, and ready for the future.

2025 Air Quality Update for the Heartland Region

Heartland Air Monitoring Partnership has released its 2025 Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) results and the news is encouraging.

Air quality was in the low health risk category 92.4% of the year, based on data from local monitoring stations.

There were 602 hours of high or very high risk ratings, mostly caused by wildfire smoke from outside the region. That’s a noticeable improvement compared to recent wildfire-impacted years.

In 2025, stations recorded:
• 505 one-hour exceedances
• 113 24-hour exceedances

Most were linked to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from wildfire smoke, along with some summertime smog and natural sources.

Continuous air monitoring helps ensure transparency and keeps our communities informed. You can learn more and view the full report on HAMP’s website.

Air Quality in Alberta’s Heartland: Mostly Low Risk in Q4 2025

📊 Key highlights from October–December 2025:
• 97.7% of hours recorded were classified as low risk to health — a strong indicator of generally good air quality in our region.
• Brief spikes into high and very high risk AQHI categories were observed — driven primarily by wildfire smoke on October 1 and a winter temperature inversion in late November.
• A small number of exceedances of Alberta’s Ambient Air Quality Objectives for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) were recorded during those events.

This data underscores the importance of long-term, transparent environmental monitoring — both for community awareness and for informing policy and response strategies. Kudos to Heartland Air Monitoring Partnershipand all partners involved in keeping a close eye on the air we breathe! 🌍👃
