Thanks to the generosity of the Northwestern Alberta Foundation and the Eva Marie Cancer Support Fund, Sorrentino’s Compassion House has welcomed new day beds.

Designed with both guests and their loved ones in mind, they provide a comfortable place to rest, visit, share a conversation, or simply be together.

National Nonprofit Day is a reminder that meaningful work is never done alone.

For over two decades, Compassion House Foundation has been supporting women who must travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment. What began as a vision has grown into a community built on compassion, generosity, and connection.

To everyone who has donated, volunteered, attended an event, shared our story, or cheered us on from afar: thank you. Your support helps create a home away from home for women when they need it most. 🏠

We're incredibly grateful to the Northwestern Alberta Foundation and the Eva Marie Cancer Support Fund for helping women access the care, comfort, and community they need while receiving cancer treatment away from home. Because in this House, no one faces cancer alone.

Last November, the Eva Marie Cancer Support Fund made a $85,500 investment in women from Northwestern Alberta who were facing cancer treatment far from home. Six months in, here's what that looks like...

Twelve women from our region called the Eva Marie Suite home for a combined 165 nights. The Compassion Fund helped remove financial barriers to groceries, accommodations, and personal necessities, adding up to 193 nights of supported care at Sorrentino's Compassion House.

Four washer/dryer sets were replaced (the house runs 3,000 to 3,200 loads of laundry every single year). And after months of searching across suppliers, they finally found the quality day beds that family caretakers needed.

The numbers only tell part of it. Here's what one guest said about her time there: "Being at Compassion House made me feel so safe, so peaceful and 100% supported. I can't imagine trying to go through treatment alone in an empty hotel room."

Another guest, who stayed a week at a time over eight months, said she made some of her "dearest and closest friends" there, women who cried with her, celebrated with her, and walked alongside her every day.

The Eva Marie Cancer Support Fund was built to make sure women from Northwestern Alberta don't have to face cancer alone — and six months in, it's doing exactly that.
