Our current initiative in Uganda focuses on inclusive education, mobility support, family livelihoods, and community inclusion. Following the initial assessment and community engagement phase, next steps will focus on caregiver livelihood support, small business development, and the construction of wheelchair-accessible school sanitation facilities to improve dignity, safety, and inclusion for children with disabilities.

50 hives. 50 years!

On World Bee Day, we’re excited to launch Change for Children’s 50th Anniversary Legacy Project — a new initiative supporting beekeeping cooperatives in Guatemala, Uganda, Honduras, Brazil, and Canada.

Focused on climate resilience, biodiversity, and community-led livelihoods, this work reflects what has always mattered most to us: building sustainable futures together through collective effort and local leadership.

One detail stayed with us during recent visits with producers in Guatemala: many cooperatives operate with 12–15 hives, while 50 hives can represent a more sustainable livelihood.

Here’s to a sweet future ahead!

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the women who are often the first teachers, the calming hands in times of uncertainty, the keepers of traditions, and the force behind healthier families and stronger futures.

We see you. We see your leadership in classrooms, in community projects, in health initiatives, and in the determination to create brighter opportunities for children.

Happy Mother's Day!

This year, Change for Children celebrates five decades of working alongside communities to strengthen education, safe water, and sustainable livelihoods.

What began with two passionate educators in 1976 has grown into a local and global network of partners, volunteers, and supporters who believe in the power of community-led change.

As we mark this golden anniversary year, we’ll be sharing Moments That Made Us from the past five decades — moments of partnership, resilience, and learning that have shaped who we are today.

Whether you've been right alongside us for decades or have recently joined our community, we'd love for you to share your own Change for Children memories so we can tell this story together!

Email us your moments! [email protected]

🌍 This , a solar-powered digital classroom is being installed in a remote Q’eqchi’ Mayan community accessible only by boat on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala. Meanwhile in the western highlands, our Executive Director Lorraine Swift is spending time with cooperatives who are shaping livelihoods in their communities one hive at a time, to explore how partnership can best help this work expand.

Sure, bees are small. But they are mighty! They pollinate crops, sustain biodiversity, and keep entire ecosystems in balance. All the while, working collectively, each playing a role to create something far greater than any one could on their own. Sitting with members of the Cooperativa Buena Semill...

Because, sometimes, isn’t this just how community is built?
Rooted in care.
In courage and kindness.
Given and received.
Crayons in hand.
Sharing tooth fairy surprises.

Our recent dental brigade took us into the highlands of Guatemala, where Maya Mam communities welcomed us into schools and shared spaces with the kind of kindness that stays with you. We are grateful for the communities who received us openly and showed us what pride in culture and care for one anot...

Today is and we're been thinking about ripples. Over two decades ago, Change for Children began partnering with communities in Nicaragua to support water systems — practical, community-managed solutions designed to last.

At the time, the goal was clear: improve water access, protect health, and support daily life.

But those systems also created ripples, locally and globally.

And over time, those ripples became something of a legacy of leadership, stewardship, knowledge, and care.

As we mark hashtag , we’re celebrating not only access to safe water, but the local and global communities who continue to steward it every day.

Read more about the legacy of our Nicaragua Water Project:

Twenty-two years ago, the Change for Children community was abuzz with the news that the Nicaragua Water Project had received support from the Government of Canada. What followed was clean water access for more than 140,000 people across Nicaragua’s drought-stricken rural landscape. The project we...
