There’s a new home to explore at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, and some fan-favourite residents have a pretty impressive new roommate!

Inspired by the desert landscapes of southern Africa, the brand-new meerkat habitat was designed with this highly social species in mind, bringing elements of their natural environment into a space with more room to explore, interact and, of course, do plenty of meerkat things.

It’s also home to an unexpected new face: Africa’s largest mainland tortoise species, bringing two very different African species together under one roof. His name is Nardo, short for “Mr. Leonardo,” a nod to one very famous crime-fighting Ninja Turtle.

For visitors, the new habitat brings the mob closer than ever, with improved eye-level viewing and enhanced accessibility making it easier to watch the mob's busy social lives unfold right in front of you.

Take a look inside the meerkats’ new home, meet their new roommate, and get a glimpse of what’s still to come in the Saito Centre. The meerkats may have settled in, but the story of this space is just getting started!

Lawrence would like everyone to know that his Grandpa, Steve, is being extremely unreasonable and won’t play with him right now.

Steve, on the other hand, would like everyone to know that he has a very important nap to attend to.

Consider this your official introduction to Cedar, the littlest member of our pack… and quite possibly your new favourite? 🥹💚

Despite being the smallest pup, Cedar has a BIG personality, and is often the one to sneak up on his siblings and start a playful wrestling match! His sweet round face and dark markings make him easy to pick out, along with his size and the last of his darker puppy coat.

We’re warning you now: it’s going to be hard not to fall for this adorable pup. Something tells us that the Cedar Fan Club is going to be a big one.

It’s Wolf Pup Wednesday, which means that your weekly dose of Timber, Olive, and Cedar has arrived!

We want to know: have you spotted the trio out in the habitat yet? And more importantly... can you tell who’s who? 👀
