Mu Sigma Chapter

Formed on March 24, 1992, Mu Sigma Chapter is the 304th chapter established at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

The mission of Sigma Theta Tai International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) is to improve the health of people worldwide by increasing the scientific base of nursing practice. Its members are nurses committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical practice, education, research and leadership. Benefits of Membership:

Oyindamola Omotayo Eminiken is an early-career nurse and emerging researcher with a strong academic foundation and a growing focus on nursing education, research capacity development, and the integration of emerging technologies in healthcare. She recently completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSC) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is currently finalizing her undergraduate research project. She is a co-author of a published research article titled Perceived Research Needs and Research Capacity of Clinical Nurses in Lagos State, Nigeria: A Cross-Sectional Study, contributing to ongoing efforts to strengthen research engagement among clinical nurses.��She also presented an abstract at the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation conference titled Assessment of Research Needs and Research Capacity of Nurses in Lagos State, Nigeria: A Mixed-Methods Study. Additionally, she is a co-author on two other research manuscripts currently under peer review. Her research interests include nursing education, research capacity development, and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare learning environments. She is passionate about advancing evidence-based nursing practice and aspires to build a career as a nurse educator and researcher, contributing to global nursing scholarship.

Zahra Kanji recently completed her Master of Nursing at the University of Alberta, where her research focused on strengthening undergraduate nursing education through simulation‑based learning. Her thesis examined whether the BE‑FIT early postoperative mobilization program, delivered through a low‑fidelity simulation, improved nursing students’ knowledge and confidence in promoting early mobility. This work reflects her commitment to developing practical, evidence‑informed teaching strategies that better prepare future nurses for safe and effective patient care.

Her leadership foundation was shaped at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in Pakistan, where she served in academic and administrative leadership roles within the School of Nursing. She contributed to establishing undergraduate nursing and trainee technician programs, led preparations for Pakistan Nursing Council accreditation of the BScN program, enrolled the first cohort of students, and developed key academic resources including the School of Nursing handbook and program prospectus. She also supported curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and clinical role development across multiple specialty areas.

In Canada, she continues to grow as an educator and mentor through her work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, contributing to foundational nursing courses and inclusive learning environments. Being inducted into Mu Sigma as a nurse leader is a meaningful recognition of her commitment to leadership, scholarship, and advancing nursing education as she begins her PhD in Nursing at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Dr. Chidinma G. Nwasuka, PhD, RN, is a nurse educator and midwifery researcher with 15+ years of clinical and academic experience across Nigeria, Belize, and is licensed as an RN in Alberta,Canada. A Fellow of the West African College of Nursing, she holds a PhD in Midwifery. Dr. Nwasuka has taught 10+ nursing and midwifery courses, supervised student research, and published on maternal health, postnatal care, and domestic violence in pregnancy. Her work advances culturally safe, evidence-based care for women and families.

Marielle Talag’s nursing background includes labour and delivery and postpartum, private plastic surgery and the operating room. She just completed her MN with an advanced focus in research and will be starting a new job as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Women’s Health Program at a local hospital in Edmonton. She is excited to join this chapter and she appreciates it.

Ransford Agyemang is an enthusiastic young man, born and raised in Sunyani-Fiapre in the Bono Region of Ghana. He is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, passionate about ministering to children and youth, and loves to sing and play some musical instruments. He had his tertiary education in Valley View University, where he earned a bachelor of nursing degree. Afterwards, he worked as a nursing officer/administrative assistant in some private health facilities and taught in a nursing college in Ghana until he eventually had the opportunity to pursue a master of nursing in research at the University of Alberta. His research focus is on the intersection between adolescent sexual and reproductive health and mental health. He currently serves as a co-president for the Nursing Graduate Students' Association. He stands for excellence, integrity and service.

Lucy Mensah is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Nursing with academic interests in public health, health equity, and community-engaged research. Her scholarly work includes conducting community-based participatory research exploring the oral health of African immigrant children, reflecting her commitment to addressing health disparities and advancing equitable health outcomes for underserved populations. Her research interests center on immigrant health, social determinants of health, and translating evidence into practice and policy. Lucy is passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration, community advocacy, and research that is both culturally responsive and impact driven. She brings a thoughtful, analytical, and compassionate approach to her work and is committed to contributing to nursing scholarship and practice that promotes population health and social justice.
