How is the Holocaust remembered and understood in Croatia today?

As part of Jewish Studies Week at the University of Alberta, renowned Croatian historian Tvrtko Jakovina will explore the experiences of Jews in Croatia during the Second World War and examine how memory, history, and national narratives continue to shape contemporary understandings of the past.

A respected political historian, author, public commentator, and former television host, Jakovina brings an important international perspective to discussions of Holocaust history and remembrance.

Learning with Our Shinshinim! 🇮🇱

Our Edmonton Shinshinim, Alma and Ofri, have been bringing Hebrew language and Jewish learning to life in our classrooms!

In Judaic Studies, students explored Parashat HaShavua (the weekly Torah portion), learning about Noah’s Ark and its important lessons.
Grade 6 students also got a fun introduction to Hebrew slang, discovering how the language they learn in the classroom is used in everyday conversations in Israel!

Through these engaging experiences, Alma and Ofri are helping our students deepen their connection to Hebrew, Jewish traditions and Israeli culture. 💙

A roaring good time at Hebrew Lunch & Learn!

This past Sunday, our young learners gathered with the Edmonton ShinShinim for a Hebrew story, songs, conversation and creativity. After listening to a story in Hebrew about lions, the children put their imaginations to work and created their own lion masks to take home.

Through stories, crafts and play, Hebrew Lunch & Learn helps children build connections to Hebrew language and Israeli culture in a fun and engaging environment.

We can't wait to see everyone at our next session!

An exclusive North American showing of Bente Kahan's Unfinished Lives is coming to Edmonton as part of Jewish Studies Week at the University of Alberta.

This powerful exhibition reflects on the lives and work of European Jewish artists who, amid the horrors of the Holocaust, continued to create through literature, music, visual art and performance. Through their stories, the exhibit highlights resilience, creativity and the enduring power of artistic expression.
