Some weeks offer a clear reminder of what Federation is all about.

This week included progress on our new Oshry | Kipnes Jewish Community Centre, important conversations about the future of our community, updates on security and advocacy efforts, continued momentum for the United Jewish Appeal campaign, and news regarding the Heritage Festival incident.

While each of these may seem like separate issues, they are all connected by a common purpose: building a strong, vibrant, and secure Jewish community for today and for future generations.

In this week's Shabbat message, Stacey Leavitt-Wright reflects on the many ways Federation works behind the scenes to strengthen Jewish life in Edmonton and why United Jewish Appeal remains such an important part of making that work possible.

As we head into Shabbat, we invite you to take a moment to read her message and reflect on the role each of us plays in building our community's future: https://ow.ly/uvW450ZYiwa

The new elevator shaft has officially reached the rooftop, marking another exciting milestone in the JCC renovation project.

Once operational, the elevator will provide access from the concourse level to the second floor, enhancing accessibility and helping more community members comfortably navigate the building.

Progress continues every week, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the project takes shape.

Please join us in welcoming two new members of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton team!

We are excited to welcome Anna Murphy as executive assistant to the CEO and Ashley Kravetsky as Genesis Edmonton coordinator.

Anna brings extensive experience in executive support, public service, community engagement and advocacy. Her commitment to building welcoming, connected communities and supporting strong relationships will be a tremendous asset to Federation and our community.

Ashley joins us with a background in health care, advocacy and community building. A longtime Federation volunteer and chair of our Pride Committee, she is passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for Jewish young adults to connect, build relationships and engage in Jewish life through Genesis Edmonton.

Both Anna and Ashley share a deep commitment to fostering belonging, strengthening connections and helping our community thrive.

Please join us in giving them a warm welcome!

A new chapter for Jewish student life at the University of Alberta is about to begin.

Hillel Edmonton is thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of its permanent new home on campus. This welcoming space will serve as a hub for students to gather, build community, celebrate Jewish life, and find support throughout their university journey.

Students, alumni, and community members are invited to drop in between 1 and 4 p.m. on Monday, October 19, for this special milestone. A light lunch will be provided.

Please RSVP to receive location details. Drop-ins are also welcome.

We look forward to celebrating together and marking this exciting moment for Jewish life on campus.

Tonight, two local Jewish organizations are bringing people together for meaningful conversations that speak to important issues facing our community.

One event will explore antisemitism, anti-Zionism and Jew-hate on campus, while another will focus on the power of small conversations to build understanding and connection.

At a time when many are feeling the impact of rising antisemitism, we applaud the organizations and leaders creating space for dialogue, learning and engagement. These conversations strengthen our community and help foster greater awareness, understanding and allyship.

Thank you to everyone who is participating, organizing and contributing to these important discussions.

Believe it or not, all of this natural light is coming through a temporary covering over the future skylight opening.

Once the Linetsky Skylight is installed, even more natural light will flow into the heart of the Oshry | Kipnes Jewish Community Centre, creating a bright and welcoming gathering space for the community.

Lena and Victor Linetsky chose to support this feature because of the symbolism it represents. Just as a skylight brings light into a building, they hope the Oshry | Kipnes JCC will bring people together through community, connection, and belonging.

Stay tuned for more construction updates and fun facts as the future Oshry | Kipnes JCC continues to take shape.

As we welcome Shabbat, we reflect on a week filled with remembrance, friendship and meaningful connection.

From gathering as a community on October 7, to hearing firsthand from our shinshinim Alma and Ofri, to welcoming partners from across Canada and around the world, we were reminded of the power of relationships to strengthen and sustain us.

This week also brought moments of joy: seeing Hillel settle into its new home, celebrating growth in young adult engagement, gathering with students and families at Talmud Torah and watching progress continue at the Oshry | Kipnes Jewish Community Centre.

Stacey's latest Shabbat message reflects on the bridges we build, the friendships we cherish, and the community we continue to strengthen together.
