“The work on weekdays and the rest on the seventh day are correlated. The Sabbath is the inspirer, the other days the inspired.” — Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

This week, our Federation leaders joined Coast-to-Coast partners in Israel to strengthen 25 years of connection with our partnership region. CEO Stacey Leavitt-Wright, Co-President Benaron Gleiberman, Partnership2Gether Chair Erin Wright, Karen Farkas, and Clyde Hurtig are representing Edmonton with pride.

Their visit included laying the cornerstone for Tel-Hai University’s new Senate and Graduate Studies building—part of the $40M Project Regeneration initiative.

Why does this matter? Our leaders were there when the war began in 2023, and they continue to stand with our Israeli partners as they rebuild.

Join us for a compelling lecture exploring the intertwined histories of Jewish and Roma persecution during the Holocaust—and the unequal recognition of their suffering in its aftermath. Dr. Joskowicz will draw from his award-winning book Rain of Ash: Roma, Jews, and the Holocaust to examine:

🔹 How N**i racial policies targeted both Jews and Roma
🔹 Why post-war narratives treated these histories differently
🔹 What it means to write histories of entangled persecution

This event is free and open to the public. Let’s deepen our understanding of Holocaust memory and marginalized voices.

Jewish tradition teaches us: Kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh—we are responsible for one another.
Your gift to the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) helps families send their children to Edmonton Talmud Torah Society and Camp BB-Riback—experiences that build identity and inspire lifelong connection. But it doesn’t stop there.

When one family needs help, they often need it from many places. That’s why UJA supports a wide range of programs—from newcomers to seniors—ensuring our community is strong, inclusive, and supported at every stage of life.

Your increased gift meets that need. Give today to strengthen Jewish Edmonton: https://ow.ly/rm9t50XfeRu

Join us in remembering the anniversary of Kristallnacht — a pivotal moment in history that marked the escalation of violence against Jews in N**i Germany.
We are honoured to welcome Bonny Reichert, author of How to Share an Egg: A True Story of Hunger, Love and Plenty. Bonny will share her family's powerful story, including her father Saul Reichert’s survival of the Holocaust and their deep roots in Edmonton.

Bonny is a National Magazine Award-winning journalist, chef, and writing instructor. Her memoir, which won the Dave Greber Award for social justice writing, explores themes of hunger, love, and resilience through food and memory. Her journey — from growing up in the restaurant business to confronting her family's Holocaust legacy — is deeply moving and unforgettable.

This is a rare opportunity to hear Bonny speak in person, as she returns to her hometown to reflect on history, heritage, and healing.
