The City of Edmonton has approved the land sale for the African Multicultural Community Centre (AMCC), marking a major milestone. This project will create a cultural hub for African, Black, and Caribbean communities, fostering connection, celebrating culture, and supporting future generations. It reflects years of advocacy and the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Yesterday, our community showed up, brought our voices forward, and stood in solidarity for a vision of shared community, belonging, and the cultural and economic advancement of Edmonton, the city we call home.

After years of advocacy, persistence, and collective effort, Africa Centre is proud to share that Edmonton City Council has formally approved the land sale for the African Multicultural Community Centre (AMCC), an incredible moment described during the hearing as a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

This AMCC will serve as a vibrant, community-led hub for connection, culture, and development, supporting programs, services, and spaces that empower African, Black, and Caribbean communities and enrich the broader city.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Andrew Knack and the City Council for their leadership and for recognizing the importance of this investment in our community. To everyone who showed up for the Council hearing, and to all those who have stood steadfastly in support of this vision over the years, we offer our deepest gratitude.

Your presence, engagement, and collective voice made a powerful difference.
This milestone is a testament to what is possible when our community comes together with purpose, unity, and determination.

As we celebrate this remarkable moment, we recognize that the journey is just beginning. Africa Centre is committed to the work ahead to bring this vision to life, and we look forward to building what comes next together.
