Our annual BBQ at Darrell and Carol Albert’s farm was another great success. Despite the weather forecast earlier in the week, it turned into a beautiful sunny day with just a few mosquitoes, making it perfect for relaxing outdoors with fellow orchid enthusiasts.

A heartfelt thank you to Darrell and Carol for once again opening their beautiful home to us. Their stunning gardens and impressive greenhouse were a real highlight, and their warm hospitality made everyone feel so welcome.

Thank you to David Whittaker for keeping everyone well fed with delicious burgers fresh off the BBQ. Many thanks as well to Maria and Dennis for organizing the food table, and to everyone who brought such a wonderful selection of appetizers, salads, desserts, and other treats to share.

It was a pleasure catching up with old friends, welcoming new faces, and spending time together surrounded by beautiful gardens, orchids, and great company.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s BBQ another memorable gathering. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Our June meeting was another wonderful afternoon filled with learning, beautiful orchids, and great company!

Members brought a fantastic selection of orchids for the table show, creating a beautiful display. Congratulations to everyone who exhibited their plants, and to all of our ribbon winners!

A big thank you to Freddy Pon for his excellent presentation on growing Cypripediums. Freddy shared many practical tips on their culture and growing conditions, and members enjoyed learning more about these fascinating hardy orchids.

As always, the sales tables were full of tempting plants, and many members went home with a new addition to their collections.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make another successful meeting. We look forward to seeing you all at our next gathering!

The Orchid Society of Alberta was proud to bring a wonderful collection of orchids down to the Calgary Orchid Show this weekend. Our members sent many beautiful plants for the display, featuring everything from elegant species to dramatic paphiopedilums and vandaceous orchids. 🌸

A very special thank you to Monica Dewit for creating such an amazing display. The arrangement was elegant, natural, and full of character. It truly showcased the beauty and diversity of our members’ plants.

And good news for anyone who has not visited yet — the show is still open one more day today from 10 AM to 4 PM. Come enjoy the flowers, displays, vendors, and all the orchid inspiration. 🌿

What a wonderful May meeting for the Orchid Society of Alberta.

We had a great turnout, lots of beautiful orchids on display, and plenty of good conversations and delicious food shared among members. It is always nice to see both familiar faces and new orchid enthusiasts coming together to learn and enjoy the hobby.

One of the highlights of the meeting was seeing our show chairman bring in his amazing orchids that received awards earlier this May. The plants were absolutely stunning in person and inspired many of us to grow even better.

Another special moment was recognizing Daryl Powley, who was selected as the recipient of the Ingrid Ostrander Annual Award for Outstanding Service to the Orchid Society of Alberta. Very well deserved for all of his hard work and dedication over the years. Congratulations, Daryl. 👏

Thank you to everyone who attended, brought plants, shared food, helped with setup, and made the afternoon such a success. Looking forward to seeing everyone again next month.

🌸 Calgary Orchid Show & Sale is coming up! 🌸

If you are looking for a fun orchid weekend, the Foothills Orchid Society will be hosting their annual Calgary Orchid Show & Sale on May 30–31, 2026 at the Genesis Centre in Calgary.

There will be beautiful orchid displays, vendors, and lots of tempting plant shopping opportunities for orchid lovers. Definitely worth the drive from Edmonton. ☺️

The Orchid Society of Alberta will also be entering a display, and this is the official call for blooming plants from our members. Let’s show Calgary what Edmonton growers can do!

If you cannot attend in person but would still like your plants included in the OSA display, AOS judge Monica De Wit will be helping transport plants to Calgary.
