Meaningful social impact happens when our loyal partners invest in us and share their time and talent. Island Savings, a division of Tru Cooperative Bank, leads by example.

Over two afternoons this summer, their island leadership team and local Duncan branch members each took a turn helping us paint our cafeteria. It's a night and day difference in the space. Now, we have a refreshed, more professional location to use for The Mindful Mouthful's cookie packaging, and for public meetings, art displays, tap dancing classes, board meetings, cultural safety training, and team meetings. This space is home to a wide range of activities that help make us who we are as a social service charity, and it is important that it look as professional as possible.

Thank you to our friends at Island Savings for this volunteer help and for years of loyal and impactful support.

Inclusion happens through creativity, and children should never have to miss out on the fun.

One of our summer camp participants wanted to play mini golf, so Brad, from our Children and Family Services team, got creative and designed an accessible golf club holder to help make it happen. Watching kids get the chance to participate, try something new, and enjoy the game reminds us why creative innovation matters.

A little imagination and a lot of teamwork can open the door to big possibilities.

Special Woodstock brought people together this past Sunday, and our Next Step crew was right in the middle of it, enjoying music, sunshine, familiar faces, and dancing.

True community inclusion happens at events like this one where everyone shows up for a shared reason.

Thank you to Special Woodstock Society for 27 years of "peace, love, and music."

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Municipality of North Cowichan Mayor and Council for their support and partnership through the recent land sale of 5856 Clements Street. Strong communities are built through collaboration, shared vision, and partnerships that create opportunities for the future. We are grateful for North Cowichan's willingness to work alongside community organizations to help advance initiatives that benefit the people of Cowichan.

On behalf of everyone at Clements Centre, thank you for your support, partnership, and investment in our community.

Huy ch q'u (Thank you)!

I’m glad to report that North Cowichan Council recently approved the sale of the municipal land at 5856 Clements Street to the Clements Centre.

The Clements Centre has been serving children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities in our community since 1957, providing a wide range of programs and services that support individuals and families across the Cowichan region. The Clements Centre built its main facility on this property in 1985 and has leased the land from the municipality ever since.

By owning the land beneath its main facility, the Clements Centre will have greater certainty and flexibility to finance future improvements, expand its programs, and continue providing the outstanding services that so many individuals and families rely on. Council’s decision recognizes the important role the Clements Centre plays in our community and supports the organization’s long-term future.

The sale price of $270,000 was based on an independent appraisal and includes a first right of refusal for North Cowichan. This ensures that if the Clements Centre ever decides to sell the property in the future, the municipality will have the opportunity to consider reacquiring it.

The proceeds from the sale will be added to North Cowichan’s Land Sales Reserve, helping fund future priorities such as affordable housing sites, parkland acquisitions, environmental protection, and a future new fire hall.

Congratulations to the Clements Centre on this important milestone. Their decades of service have made a lasting difference in our community, and I’m pleased that Council was able to support an organization that continues to provide such valuable programs and services.
