⭐️CALL FOR ARTISTS — PRIDE EXHIBITION⭐️
The Cowichan Valley Arts Council (CVAC), in partnership with Cowichan Pride Society, invites artists to submit work for a community group exhibition in celebration of Pride Month. This year’s Pride theme is Resilience, and we welcome artwork that reflects the strength, complexity, joy, struggle, survival and creativity of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
We’re especially interested in work grounded in lived experience that responds in some way to the theme of Resilience. This includes work that reflects the diverse and intersecting realities of q***r and trans life — including how experiences are shaped by race, disability, class, age and other identities — as well as work about identity, chosen family, survival, resistance, healing, celebration and visibility.
Interpretations of resilience can be personal or political, subtle or bold, tender, defiant or unresolved. There is no single right way to respond to the theme.
Submissions in all media are welcome, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, textile, sculpture, and digital work. Please note that exhibition space is physical — digital work will be considered only if it can be displayed in a format suitable for the Annex Gallery (for example: print, projection, or display on a screen provided by the artist). Digital submissions must not require specialized equipment or ongoing technical support from CVAC.
This exhibition will be presented in the CVAC Annex Gallery and is part of Cowichan Pride Society’s official Pride Month programming.
Submission Details:
As part of the submission process, we’ll ask for a short artist bio and a few sentences about the work. This does not need to be academic or polished — plain language is absolutely fine. If writing isn’t your strong suit, that’s okay. We can lightly edit for clarity if needed, and we’re happy to help if you’d like support.
- Artists may submit one artwork to allow space for as many voices as possible.
- Depending on space and number of submissions, artists may later be invited to include a second piece.
- A submission fee applies to help cover exhibition administration.
- A limited number of fee waivers are available if cost is a barrier to participation. Please email [email protected] to discuss. No explanation required.
We are excited to create a space that celebrates q***r and trans creativity, resilience, and connection, and we look forward to seeing your work.
