Hey, wonderful community!

We are currently seeking donations of unlocked cell phones for our clients.

Not having a cell phone can be a huge barrier to connecting with one’s family, friends, and community; accessing social services; and pursuing employment opportunities.

If you have a spare cell phone that you can donate, please reach out to Robin at [email protected].

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

On Thursday, November 5th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Weldon Law Building in room W305, please join us for a panel, moderated by Natalie Brown (YWCA Halifax), centred on navigating the legal system and community supports in the wake of violence victimization and loss. Panelists will be Emma Halpern (Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia, PATH Legal), Marissa Shephard (Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia), and Ruchika Gothoskar (Avalon Sexual Assault Centre, LEA Place). The panel will also be livestreamed from our page: https://www.facebook.com/efrysocietyhalifax

The panel, held in loving memory of Logan Alexandra Russell, who was tragically killed in an act of intimate partner violence in November of 2025, will be the second of three panels supported through the Logan Alexandra Russell Fund. Intended to honour Logan’s beautiful life and loving, empathetic nature, while also striving to protect others from the violence that caused her death, the fund will contribute to intimate partner violence prevention efforts, focused on both education and the fostering of meaningful, non-judgmental, and empowering connections and collaborations.

Please email [email protected] to RSVP. To learn more about the Logan Alexandra Russell Fund, Logan’s story, and how to contribute, please visit www.efrymns.ca/logan-alexandra-russell-fund.

On behalf of both the Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia and Logan’s family, thank you for helping us to engage in violence prevention, intervention, and support through learning, connecting, and cooperating, honouring and carrying on Logan’s legacy of love, empathy, and commitment to creating safe, kinder spaces for all.

We are thrilled to share that three of our incredible staff members graduated from Dalhousie University today: Shanice Thompson from the first ever Africentric Bachelor of Social Work program, Katie Waller from the Bachelor of Social Work program, and Grisha Cowal from the Master of Social Work program.

Through their work in supporting EFMNS clients through domestic violence support, comprehensive program delivery, advocacy, record suspension services, housing, and more, Shanice, Katie, and Grisha demonstrate their wealth of passion, dedication, empathy, and knowledge each day. We are so excited to see them continue their essential work, and we are beyond grateful for all that they contribute to the community we serve.

On behalf of our entire team, congratulations, Shanice, Katie, and Grisha! Filled with pride is an understatement!
