General information

About Us: The People First movement in Nova Scotia was started in November, 1989 by people who have been labeled intellectually disabled. These people felt it was time for a change the way the community felt about people labeled intellectually disabled. They had a vision. They believed that an organized movement would help them have: -A stronger voice in the community -Create a better future -Provide them with a sense of control over their lives They wanted to be known as People First. Now there are People First groups all over the country and all over the world. The movement has been growing in Canada since 1973.
