Nventure supports innovation and entrepreneurship as pathways to economic advancement.

NCFDC is located at Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre in Cobourg, Ontario. We are co-located with the Town of Cobourg Economic Development Department, the Northumberland Manufacturers Association, Northumberland Makers and Northumberland Microfactory (located in the V13 MakerLab), various innovation-driven enterprises in the V13 VentureZone and the Corporate Services business unit of the Cobourg Police Service, with whom we are partnering on the V13 Policetech Accelerator initiative.

Last week's Women's Enterprise Organizations of Canada (WEOC) Summit in Ottawa was an exceptional opportunity for the organizations delivering the Government of Canada's Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund (WELF) with the support of ISED Canada, to come together with colleagues, stakeholders, partners and entrepreneurs from across the country to share collective results under the banner . More than $56.3 million has been invested to date in women-owned companies as the ecosystem continues to evolve collaboratively towards our common goal of gender equality in access to capital.

The Nventure team is in Ottawa today and tomorrow for the Women's Enterprise Organizations of Canada (WEOC) National Leadership Summit, joining leaders from across Canada’s women’s entrepreneurship ecosystem to talk about what it takes to help more women start, grow and scale successful businesses.

Nventure's CEO, Wendy Curtis will take part in a session entitled ‘Beyond the Application: What Developmental Lending Reveals,’ a national conversation about the success of the Women Entrepreneur Loan Fund. We'll share what we've learned and how our approach is continuing to adapt and evolve, with the support of ISED Canada.

Wendy will bring Nventure’s perspective on the opportunity to enhance and expand access to innovation capital for women founders by working with leading accelerators across Canada. Through the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy, we can focus early-stage investment on women-owned technology-driven companies and unlock considerable economic advantage.

Today the Government of Canada announced $30 million in renewed funding for the Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund which will strengthen access to capital opportunities for women-owned businesses across Canada.

Nventure is one of four national organizations delivering the Fund alongside the Women's Enterprise Organizations of Canada (WEOC), the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA) and Evol.

To date, Nventure has delivered $6.7 million in financing to 307 women-owned businesses across Canada through DELIA.

“This renewed investment builds on the continuing momentum of the Women Entrepreneurship Strategy,” said Wendy Curtis, CEO of Nventure. “And reinforces the important role women entrepreneurs play in Canada’s economic future.”

Women-owned businesses will continue to access capital of up to $50,000 from the DELIA Fund while benefitting from broader resources, entrepreneurial development opportunities and national connectivity via StrikeUP Canada (which is also powered by Nventure).

With the support of Canadian Innovation (ISED Canada) and working with partners—including leading national technology start-up accelerators—Nventure is proud to advance the goal of greater gender equality in access to capital and to contribute directly to the efforts of women entrepreneurs from across the country.

Last week, Nventure was in Kingston, Ontario for RXN HUB's flagship Innovation Summit. We featured Latchmi Raghunanan, from Maman Biomedical® and Malcolm Eade from Spectra Plasmonics at our pavilion in the exhibition hall, while igniting new conversations and new opportunities to back Canadian start-ups in chemistry, cleantech and other advanced technologies, in particular, through our national DELIA Women Entrepreneurship Loan Fund and StrikeUP Canada (with the support of Canadian Innovation) and alongside Bioenterprise Canada Innovation Advisor, Evan Hall, who is also an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Venture13. Congratulations to all of the entrepreneurs attending the Summit for creating value, pursuing sustainability and for working on the grand challenges involved in creating truly circular economies. We also appreciated Peter McArthur's green chemistry/cleantech keynote on national strategies and his optimistic reckoning with the overall global outlook. Momentum and enthusiasm continues for collaboration and collective action.

Last night, Nventure attended the sixteenth edition of the LiONS LAIR pitch competition finals and gala in Oakville, with our partners, the team at Innovation Factory. They did a fantastic job pulling off a high-energy, fully televised event. Congratulations to the winners and to all of the Finalists for presenting their innovative products, services and platforms with such confidence and finesse.

Something that stood out during the programme: several entrepreneurs were asked by the judges panel about their 'exit strategy' for venture capital investors and the response was very clear (paraphrasing): 'We aren't planning to exit. We want to grow and become a big, established company that employs a ton of people here in our community.'

At a critical time, in a changing world driven by complex socio-political, environmental and macro-economic challenges, this sentiment (to build the industries of Canada's future, versus just 'exit' and sell off the venture to the highest bidder) was re-enforced by remarks from Mike Branch from the award-winning 'innovation pillar' company, Geotab, and pointed to a collective vision for how innovation-track companies can realize their full potential with strong, committed leadership.
