A message from Susan Turner, Cat Action board chair:

I am writing on behalf of Cat Action Team P.E.I. to respectfully request your consideration in donating cat and dog food to help support our cat colonies across Prince Edward Island.

The Cat Action Team (CAT) is a small, all-volunteer registered charitable organization. We are dedicated to caring for and reducing the feral and stray cat population throughout the province. Founded in November 2000, CAT relies entirely on donations, grants and bequests to fund our programs and ongoing rescue efforts.

At present, we have more than 500 cats on our waiting list, and that number continues to grow each day. A significant portion of our funding goes directly to spaying and neutering programs, which are essential to humanely controlling the stray and feral cat population.

Some exciting news from Milligan’s Fisheries Ltd., who held a recent fundraiser in support of Cat programs:

Our first annual fundraising campaign was a huge success. With donations from some of our fisher friends and vendors, as well as a portion of our proceeds from Saturday shipments, we are very excited to say we raised a total of $6000.

That will be split 50/50 between P.E.I. Humane Society and P.E.I. Cat Action team. Thanks for stepping up to help our furry friends who can not speak for themselves.

The Cat Action Team Board of Directors will meet on Thursday, June 18, at 7:00 p.m. at my home, 467 Brackley Point Road.

We are seeking volunteers to help with fundraising as our waiting list has grown to nearly 500 cats. Your ideas, experience, and enthusiasm can help us continue providing care to cats in need.

If you can attend, please let me know. If June 18 is not convenient, we would be happy to arrange another time to meet.

Together, we can make a difference for hundreds of cats.

The P.E.I. Cat Action Team relies on volunteers and donors.

Today, we want to send a huge thank you to Ron and Linda Curtis.

They are holding a plant sale and donating the proceeds to three local animal welfare organizations, including CAT. They are also supporting Keeping Cats Homed and P.E.I. Wildlife Rehabilitation.

We cannot thank them enough for their generosity and community spirit.

Are you interested in learning more about the P.E.I. Cat Action Team’s trapping process? Come to our trapping workshop this Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m.

The workshop is at 467 Brackley Point Rd., next to Island Auto Supply Ltd. Look for the dark grey one-storey house with white trim and an attached garage.

Also, CBC’s Land and Sea documentary program will be travelling across P.E.I. filming Cat Action Team events. The trapping workshop is the first featured event, and we hope for a strong community turnout.

Please come out, bring a friend, learn more about our work and help make this event a success. We would love to have your support.

Everyone loves kittens.

They are cute, cuddly and playful. They also need special care, especially kittens that have been born outside and are officially characterized as feral cats.

Kittens can be born anywhere, at any time of year, and a mother cat will sometimes have more than one litter per year. But spring is still an especially noteworthy time for kittens, and a great time to be thinking about the benefits of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).

Cat Action Team has noticed an increase in the number of feral cat reports, and our waiting lists are the longest they have been in the last five years.

As the earth comes to life all around us, we are asking the public to think about the hundreds of new kittens being born this spring and how receiving proper veterinary care and living in a monitored colony will vastly improve their lives.
