Congratulations on your achievement Madison!

CFPEI is proud to host the Michelle Stark Memorial Fund; established to celebrate the life and legacy of Michelle Stark, a dedicated dental hygienist from Prince Edward Island whose career and compassion touched countless lives.

The bursary is dedicated to supporting a Prince Edward Island student enrolled in either the Diploma in Dental Hygiene (DDH) program or the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene (BDH) program at Dalhousie University.

Thank you to the team at Dalhousie for facilitating - together we ensure this award honours Michelle's commitment to patient care, education, and community service.

Madison Lowther (BDH1) is the inaugural recipient of the Michelle Stark Memorial Bursary. Dr. Ben Davis, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, presented her with her award on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Madison is from Crapaud, PEI, and attended Bluefield High School in North Wiltshire. Always interested in health care, Madison knew before she left school that dental hygiene was the career for her and enjoyed shadowing and working at Hampton Dental, where alumni Alexis (Lexi) McLean (DDS'19) and Lana (MacEachern) Clow (DDH'00) practise.

After two years at UPEI to get the re-requisites she needed, Madison started the BDH program at Dalhousie, where her priorities are patient care and comfort. Congratulations, Madison!

The Michelle Stark Memorial Bursary celebrates the life and legacy of Michelle Stark, a dedicated dental hygienist from Prince Edward Island who died from ALS in February 2025.

The bursary honours her commitment to patient care, education, and community service and is dedicated to supporting a Prince Edward Island student enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene program at Dalhousie University.

After eight and a half years of dedicated leadership and service, the Foundation announces the retirement of its Executive Director, Kent Hudson, effective March 27.

Since joining the Foundation in 2017, Kent has played a pivotal role in guiding the organization through a period of significant growth and impact. At that time, the Foundation stewarded an endowment of approximately $8 million. Today, the endowment has grown to $20 million, with annual granting reaching $5 million in 2025 - an achievement that reflects a shared commitment to the Foundation’s mission.

This progress has been made possible through the collective dedication of many. Kent extends heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation’s current and former staff, board members, volunteers, donors, and fund advisors, all of whom share a deep belief in the importance of supporting the communities the Foundation serves. Working alongside such passionate and purpose-driven individuals has been both a privilege and a joy.

While Kent will be missed, the Foundation is well positioned for continued success. With a strong team, clear direction, and solid momentum, the organization is poised to build on its accomplishments and continue making a lasting impact.

As this chapter closes, Kent is looking forward to retirement and the opportunities it may bring, with gratitude for a career marked by meaningful work, collaboration, and community impact. "Serving the Foundation has been an honour, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart", he said.

Following March 27, Emma Bourgeois will oversee operations during the transition period until a new Executive Director is appointed.

The Foundation thanks Kent for his outstanding service and wishes him every happiness in the years ahead!

Emma Bourgeois, CFPEI Director of Operations, can be reached by email at [email protected], or by phone at 902-200-8567.

It was an honour to participate in the Charlottetown flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the beginning of Black History Month!

Our Executive Director Brenda is pictured in the front row, first person to the left of the flagpole.

We were pleased to mark the beginning of the month with the City of Charlottetown, Reequal Smith, Programs and Events Organizer with the Black Cultural Society of PEI, along with MLAs, members of the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and other community members.

Exciting things are happening in our Island communities!

Provincial Credit Union is thrilled to be part of today’s exciting announcement for the future Stratford Wellness Centre. CEO Alfred Arsenault (far left) was present as $10 million in federal government funding for the project was officially announced. Provincial Credit Union had previously committed $500,000 towards the new youth centre that will be part of Stratford Wellness Centre. This youth centre will provide an expanded, modernized space to allow for more local youth to be involved in local programming. We are excited for the Town of Stratford as it embarks on this community-driven project.
