Accessibility is not always about being able to get into a place. It's also about being able to invite everybody else into the space you call home.

Inclusio by Accessible Housing is a fully accessible home where people with limited mobility can live with dignity and independence.

What else makes a home truly accessible? Listen to our latest podcast to find out.

Building in accessibility from the design stage is usually less than 1% of the cost of the entire build.

This year's theme is building a strong, accessible Canada. Accessible Housing shows us that is possible in Calgary.

Yesterday, Calgary City Council voted to pass the Safer Together Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan and to keep the Free Fare Zone until January 2027.

VCC welcomes Council's decision on Safer Together. The Safer Together plan reflects the important principles that long-term community safety depends on upstream prevention and action on root causes, and not only on emergency response and enforcement. VCC looks forward to working further with the City to advance our shared goals, and thanks the Mayor and Council for their leadership.

Calgary's Free Fare Zone is an important driver of community vibrancy and social connection. VCC welcomes yesterday's decision, as eliminating the Free Fare Zone would likely disproportionately affect Calgarians living in poverty. VCC supports the continuation of the Free Fare Zone and the expansion of deeply affordable transit for all Calgarians.

Calgary Foundation's 2025 Quality of Life Report found that 57% of respondents rated their mental health as ‘very good’ or 'excellent,' up 1% from last year. However, that number drops to 23% for Calgarians who are unemployed.

There is a close relationship between financial stress and mental well-being, which can shape people’s ability to navigate and overcome poverty.

We’re wrapping up the week with an appreciation post for our friends and E4A Champions at The Alex Community Health Centre for organizing a thoughtful fireside chat with Jeromy "Pathfinder" Farkas It was a valuable opportunity to learn more about the vital work The Alex does to support Calgarians, and to hear firsthand about the passion and care they bring to the community every day.

That same passion came through in Mayor Farkas’ reflections on the importance of investing in preventative measures and addressing the root causes of social issues to help build a healthy, safe, and connected city for everyone.

Conversations like these matter. They help strengthen relationships across sectors, deepen understanding, and create opportunities to work together toward a city where everyone can thrive. We look forward to continuing this work alongside community partners, Mayor Farkas, and Council in support of all Calgarians.
