In a world increasingly designed for isolation, human connection remains essential to thriving people and communities.

We appreciated the opportunity to take part in the Community Leaders Social Health Workshop yesterday, learning from GenWell's Pete Bombaci. Reminding us that connection doesn’t require grand gestures. Small, consistent acts of belonging and relationship-building make a lasting difference for all of us. Strong human connections improve well-being and create vibrant communities.

Last night we attending A Gathering for Social Purpose Leaders.

No matter how our systems, programs, or approaches evolve, some things remain constant: people need people.

It was great to join the conversation about what doesn't change, exploring the enduring value of community, meaningful relationships, purpose, opportunities to contribute, and the power of cooperation in addressing complex challenges.

As communities continue to adapt and evolve, our strength lies in showing up for one another. We work in complexity every day, and we keep building solutions that meet the needs of those in our community.

Many thanks to Angie Gelinas, Kendall Quantz, D'Andre Wilson-Ihejirika, and Ken Lima-Coelho for a great conversation.

October is End Poverty Month in Calgary.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas has proclaimed October End Poverty Month and recorded a message recognizing the importance of poverty reduction in our city.

Since 2015, Calgary has been working together through Enough for All to change the systems and conditions that shape people’s lives, from affordable transit and housing to child care, financial security, and access to vital benefits.

There is more work to do.

Vibrant Communities Calgary welcomes today’s announcement that the future Indigenous Gathering Place will have a permanent home at Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow and Elbow rivers meet. This marks an important step toward realizing the nearly decade-long vision for a permanent gathering place for Indigenous Peoples in Calgary.

This commitment by the City of Calgary, the Indigenous Gathering Place Society, and The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland is an important step in reconciliation, providing a central gathering place for Indigenous Peoples’ spiritual, emotional, cultural, and social well-being in Calgary.

We look forward to seeing this important work continue and thank the Indigenous Gathering Place Society, Elders, community members, The Confluence, and the City of Calgary for their leadership and commitment to reconciliation.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. Today, we had the honour to hear from residential school survivors, and the survivors living with intergenerational trauma after. We also watched beautiful performances and heard a reminder to keep Indigenous languages and art forms alive.

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. It's a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, recognize the experiences of survivors and their families, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system and colonialism.

At Vibrant Communities Calgary and through Enough for All, we recognize that building a community where everyone has enough requires addressing the systems and structures that create inequity. We remain committed to learning from Indigenous partners, honouring Indigenous knowledge, and supporting pathways toward justice, healing, and systemic change.
