The snow arrived Sunday morning, but inside the sanctuary, there was plenty of warmth!

It was wonderful to gather with familiar faces and welcome new ones, even as the temperature dropped outside. A big thank you to everyone who braved the cold to join us for worship. Our choir provided a beautiful musical backdrop to the service, and we continued our Referendum Minute conversations, reflecting on questions 8 and 9 as referendum day draws closer. These conversations are becoming more emotional as the date approaches, reminding us how important it is to make space for listening, reflection and community.

We also shared Communion and, hopefully, everyone left with a little more joy to carry into the Thanksgiving long weekend.

There's plenty happening at Hillhurst this week! Join us for Tim Bits 'n Talk on Wednesday, a reflective Story and Song Coffeehouse on Friday evening, a Saturday morning workshop with Rev. Travis Norvell, and Sunday's service and conversation with John and Travis.

We hope you'll join us as we continue making space for meaningful conversations, connection and community.

This Saturday in the Calgary Herald, John shares a Thanksgiving message about gratitude, unity, and what we value about Canada.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming Alberta referendum, John invites us to reflect on what brings us together, from our beautiful landscapes and diverse communities to our shared commitment to caring for one another.

The message is a timely reminder that even when we disagree, there is still much to be grateful for.

Join the Food Ministry

Hillhurst Kensington's Food Ministry is coming to life, and you're invited to be part of it!

We are seeking people to join the core Food Ministry leadership team. This is the group that keeps things organized as we begin regularly gathering after Sunday service. It discerns how this ministry takes shape, coordinates and schedules, generates ideas, and recruits groups to serve. The core team will not be directly responsible for preparing or serving the food each week. That work will be shared by food teams, so that no one person or small group carries the load. Opportunities to get involved as a food team will follow.

At its heart, the Food Ministry is about community: a place to break bread after Sunday service, deepen conversations, make new friends and reconnect with old ones.

With Alberta’s referendum approaching, join us for Love Thy Neighbour with Rev. G. Travis Norvell on Saturday, October 17.

Travis will share how communities in Minneapolis responded to crisis by reaching out to their neighbours and supporting one another through difficult and uncertain times. His congregation’s response to major ICE raids in Minneapolis has helped build a connection with our community and offers a meaningful example of compassion in action.

As part of a weekend of music, meaningful conversation and connection, we’ll make space to pause, reflect and consider how we can care for our neighbours, stay grounded in our values and move forward together with compassion and understanding.

Right Relations Circle | Saturday, October 18

The Right Relations Circle meeting originally scheduled for October 11 has been postponed due to Thanksgiving.

The group will now meet after the service on Saturday, October 18, in the Boardroom.

The monthly gathering is open to all and offers an opportunity to share information, reflect on our reconciliation journey, discuss ways to live out the purpose of the Right Relations Circle, and plan activities that promote Right Relations at HUC.
