Happy Pride Month from Heritage Park 🌈

Ever noticed these floral pins on our costumed interpreters? 🌿 At Heritage Park, staff wear sprigs of lavender on their costume lapels year-round as a quiet symbol of support for the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, flowers like lavender, violets, pansies and green carnations became subtle ways for q***r communities to recognize one another, show support and create safer spaces in public.

These pins are a reminder that history has always been human and that everyone deserves to feel seen, safe and welcome.

June is National Indigenous History Month and it is a time to listen, learn and reflect on the rich and living cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. 🪶

At Heritage Park, Indigenous-led experiences create space for connection, reflection and celebration through storytelling, music, movement, foodways and shared traditions.

From June 15–21, Heritage Park will honour National Indigenous History Month with programming including Telling Our Own Stories, Campfire Chats, Bring Your Kokum Scarf | Sober After Party (18+) and National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

It is also a time to recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization and consider how learning, listening and community can help move reconciliation forward.

In fact, many volunteer throughout the Historical Village, helping keep traditions and stories alive for guests.
