The Table YYC

We are The Table YYC - a local mutual aid project providing for homeless and at-risk Calgarians, one donation at a time. Everyone is welcome at our table!

Every Sunday we provide food, personal hygiene items, clothes and much more to those who need it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This year our community contributed $6500 to The Table YYC!
One community member contributed a total of 43 times!! Seeing folks actively redistribute their funds to mutual aid is what it’s all about!!
Thank you to everyone that redistributed their funds this year! Supporting and loving your community is always going to be the right choice.
Wishing everyone a safe and fulfilled new year, see everyone in 2025!

Meet Emma! (She/her)

“Being with The Table YYC for 2+ years has allowed me to become closer to my community. I’ve met so many interesting and like minded people through this group!! As a nurse, I really truly care about people and want to connect beyond the scrubs and to do lists. Despite our small operation, everyone keeps coming back week after week, which proves just how important community led grassroots organizations are.”

Meet Tam (he/him)!

“Last year, I was homeless. I showed up at outreach each Sunday for a cup of coffee, sandwich, and a few other needful things. This year, I show up to serve as many cups of coffee as possible!”

“You’ll find me at The Table because I got sick of being bombarded with bad news, political bickering, and dystopian prophecies. I got tired of being a passenger. The Table offers me a chance to show up, connect with amazing people, and actively contribute to building a resilient and empathetic community.”

“I volunteer because I believe in harm reduction. Living with a physical disability has shown me how small gestures of kindness and compassion can make a big difference in people’s lives. I am where I am today because of the help and support I have received from others. I have seen how having access to harm reduction supplies saves lives.”

Community Member Highlight!

Meet Sarah (she/her)

Sarah keeps us stocked up and hot water so everyone can enjoy their coffee and hot chocolate! She also helps out with making sandwiches and hot meals for everyone to enjoy.
“Being there every Sunday helps me feel less bad about the state of the world. I have met so many incredible people doing this - among our volunteers but especially also among the clients who regularly come to us. It’s just priceless to see that it means a lot to many clients that we show up. In my mind, it’s of course about the things we hand out. But mostly it’s about looking into someone’s eyes and asking them with honest curiosity how their day/ week was. And then listen to what they have to say“

Welcome to the ‘community members highlight’ series!

We will be highlighting various The Table YYC community members, and learning more about them and why they love being a part of our community!

Meet Cole (they/them)
“ My reason for being here is to provide support for fellow humans struggling with the curcumstances of Colonialism. I’ve experienced a lot of loss amongst my friends and family to lack of access to the support they needed. Some folks who I loved dearly to the lack of access to Naloxone which could have saved their lives. Mostly all losses that could have been prevented via access to what we provide, be it Harm reduction supplies, some warm clothes, or just the notion that someone cares. If I can have a hand in helping someone get through another day under systems designed to oppress vulnerable people, I’m gonna do what I can.”
