EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society is a non-profit, artist-run centre for media art in Calgary.

Since its inception in 1979, EMMEDIA has maintained a two-part mandate: to support both the production and presentation of media arts. EMMEDIA responds to a broad community by offering affordable access to media art production tools and facilities, services, technical and educational support, an array of production programs and residencies, and a year round schedule of public exhibition programs including the PARTICLE + WAVE Media Arts Festival. Our programs strive to foster artistic dialogue and engagement through complementary activities such as artist talks and panel discussions, workshops and publications.

🌙Twilight Celebrations was the MOMENT! We are so proud to continue to partner with Chassidy, Tamia, Austin, Brenden, and Courtney wowed us with their animations of late night car rides, sweetgrass braids, flowers and smoke. Erika Jean Lincoln's drawing machine comes alive when you walk in. An ink gravity drip fills the machine's pen and for the next 10 minutes, the growth rings of an individual tree reveal themselves on the paper.

Over the duration of the exhibition, the ring drawings accumulate on the floor acting as a document of a lost forest and of the process of remembrance.

Erika Jean's Arboreal Intuitions 🌳 is an interactive installation about trees, memory, and machine learning.

Inspired by the loss of Winnipeg’s urban elm forest to Dutch Elm disease, the work brings together ML-generated tree canopies, field-recording-based sound, a drawing machine, and an accumulation of 100 machine-generated drawings.

Weeks of hard work pay off TODAY at Twilight Celebrations!✍️🌟

We are so excited to share with you all the hard work the youth have put into their animations for Twilight Celebrations. Some who are returning to the program for their second year and some doing animation for the first time ever, have expanded their storytelling abilities into a visual world of moving illustrations.

Thank you to for teaching animation with Toonboom, for teaching projection mapping, and for their continued support in collaboration in making Indigenous youth media arts programs happen!
