The DKBSB Foundation Summer 2021 Virtual Raffle officially ended last night! We hosted our prize raffle draw, where all winners for the prizes offered were chosen. All winners will be contacted via email to organize prize pickup!

The DKBSB Foundation team would like to thank all sponsors, donors, and supporters of our foundation, and this raffle! Over the last few months, we were able to raise $3702 for The Heart and Stroke Foundation! This is an accomplishment we are extremely happy and proud to have reached. This money will fund important work in prevention, early diagnosis, and better treatments in heart and brain health.

The end of The DKBSB Foundation Summer 2021 Virtual Raffle is officially less than one week away! Since our launch in July, members of The DKBSB Foundation have donated blood, eaten ghost peppers, and dyed our hair in an effort to encourage donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. To date, we have raised over $3400! For our last push to raise money, we have committed to eating a spread of exotic foods (selected by donors) at $5000 raised! If you would like to support heart and brain disease research, enter a great raffle, and have a say in what exotic foods we will be eating, donate now!

The DKBSB Foundation hosts a variety of fundraising events to incentivize donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. We hope to support families impacted by heart disease and stroke, as well as spread some positivity.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation supports many avenues of heart and brain disease research, one of which is focused on improving the lives of individuals with congenital heart disease.

Tanner, who is the cousin of The DKBSB Foundation member Spencer, suffers from a congenital heart disease known as pulmonary atresia. Individuals with this condition are born without a pulmonary valve, meaning blood cannot flow through the heart properly. This can slow the growth of the right ventricle and can severely impact the heart’s function.

To help with his condition, Tanner had a small stent put in one of his heart vessels when he was born. Heart research has allowed Tanner’s family to closely monitor his condition, plan further steps and surgeries, and allows him to live a somewhat normal life despite missing a key component of his heart.

In 2020, The Heart and Stroke Foundation invested $21.8 million to research aimed at diagnosing conditions, like pulmonary atresia, faster, providing better treatments, and improving quality of life for individuals with heart disease. They have funded research that has led to the first corrective in-utero surgery addressing congenital heart defects and have made many other strides in research that will help individuals like Tanner live a normal life.

Members of The DKBSB Foundation have supported Canadian Blood Services for many years. Donating blood is a simple and easy way to give back and potentially save someone’s life! As the number of major surgeries and medical procedures rose this summer, so did the medical demand for blood! We formed this fundraising milestone challenge as a way to potentially encourage those who can, to donate blood.

Canadian Blood Services provides a safe and comfortable atmosphere to donate blood, as well as snacks for you to enjoy after! We generated the idea for this fundraising milestone challenge right as The DKBSB Foundation was formed, back when raising $2500 for The Heart and Stroke Foundation seemed almost unattainable. The fact that we reached this goal, and are only ~$1700 away from our ultimate goal of raising $5000, is unbelievable. We’d like to take this chance to thank all of our generous donors and amazing sponsors for supporting this great cause and helping us reach this milestone. $5000 is next!
