Only 3 days left to apply for a Good Places Grant!

There’s still time to bring your community together through play, connection, and creativity!

Over the summer, Centre for Newcomers hosted a Basketball Tournament. Youth and families in the community came together to play basketball, enjoy activities, and connect in a welcoming, inclusive environment. With support from local partners, the event created opportunities for youth to build relationships, feel a sense of belonging, and celebrate their community.

Do you have an idea to bring your community together? Apply for a Good Places Grant by October 30th for your chance to receive $500–$15,000 to bring your placemaking idea to life!

Action Grants are for the little things that go a long way. Braeside Community Association used their Action Grant to add a picnic table to a public space in their community that lacked public seating. Volunteers at Braeside have already noticed more people gathering in this space now that there is a table to hold casual conversations and picnics.

Good Places Grant applications are open until October 30th! Now is a great time to bring creativity and connection to your community.

Over the summer, the volunteers of Dover Community Association brought new life to their community rink with a colourful mural led by resident artist Tiffany Lynn Cuffley Art and created with the help of 12 volunteer youth! The project also added new benches, giving skaters and passersby a welcoming place to sit, take a break, or lace up their skates.

Created by Dover residents, for Dover residents, this project has inspired community pride, received positive feedback from local families, and made the rink a more welcoming place to gather.

Join us at Good Places HQ for Student Night to connect with other students, meet people working in placemaking, and learn more about how we can shape the places we live, work, and gather in.

We’ll have pizza, drinks, activities, takeaways and some casual chats about placemaking.

Have you ever wanted to try leading a small project to make your community a more welcoming, connected, or vibrant place? Maybe you want to add seating to a shared space, create an art installation or pop-up, organize a community activity or event such as a scavenger hunt or campfire, or introduce a fun recreational feature like co****le or snow mini golf. A new opportunity is coming soon!

The Placemaking Residency is a free program from our Good Places Project that will help participants build leadership skills, explore placemaking, and volunteer to complete a small-scale project in their community. Participants will have access to a microgrant of up to $2,500 to bring their idea to life.

You don’t need to have a project idea or placemaking experience to participate. You can apply on your own or with a group of friends, neighbours, or fellow volunteers.

Applications open in November. In the meantime, help us spread the word! Share this opportunity with friends, neighbours, volunteers, or anyone you know who might be interested in learning, getting involved, and bringing a small but meaningful project to life in their community.

Good Places Grant applications are open now until October 30th. Now is a great time to plan a winter placemaking project for your community, like a Crokicurl rink!

In 2018, Acadia Community Association created a Crokicurl rink, allowing residents to enjoy crokinole and curling combined as one sport! This project turned a blank patch of snow into a fun hang out for winter.
