June 1–7 is Seniors’ Week in Alberta! 🎉

This week, we join in celebrating older adults and the many contributions they make to our families and communities.

This year’s theme, “40 Years of Connection, Contribution, and Community,” recognizes the important role older adults play in our families, communities, and across generations.

During Seniors’ Week, we also celebrate and thank seniors for the many ways they enrich our lives and communities.

This week, we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week across The Brenda Strafford Foundation! 🎉

We enjoyed lunches, ice cream treats, karaoke, beach-themed dress-up days, and more, and it was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the people who make our work possible every day.

Thank you to our incredible teams for the care, compassion, and dedication you bring to supporting residents, clients, families, staff, and visitors. We are so grateful for all that you do.

At Heart Home Network, we provide safe housing, counselling, and support services for women and children who have experienced domestic violence. Our safe housing programs include Second-Stage Shelter and Progressive Housing.

But what do these programs mean?

Our Second-Stage Shelter program provides safe, supportive housing for up to one year. During their stay, clients have access to comprehensive supports including case management, counselling, and individualized planning to help them move toward long-term stability and independence.

Throughout the program, clients can explore next steps with support from our team, whether that means applying for our Progressive Housing program or finding housing and resources in the community.

Our Progressive Housing program offers safe, affordable, and independent living for eligible clients who have completed Second-Stage Shelter programming. Clients continue to have access to supports while building independence at their own pace.

On average, families stay in Progressive Housing for up to one year before transitioning into the community.

During National Caregiver Month, we’re celebrating the importance of caring for the people who care for others every day.

Last Saturday, staff members and community members gathered at Institut Brenda Strafford in Les Cayes, Haiti for a wonderful afternoon badminton session following the recent renovation of the court by the players themselves. 🏸

Since 1982, the Institut has provided Ophthalmology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) care in Haiti, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, through a team of 100+ employees and national and international specialists.

The Brenda Badminton Club is creating a positive space for wellness, teamwork, physical activity, and stress relief.

Moose Hide Campaign Day is a day of ceremony and reflection that calls on people across Canada to stand together against violence, while taking meaningful steps on the shared journey toward reconciliation.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and respected. Today is an opportunity to reflect on the role we each play in creating communities free from violence and rooted in care, accountability, and reconciliation.
