Classroom Champions Mentoring students through the mindset of world-class athletes.🏅

Not all kids have the benefit of strong role models who encourage them to envision for themselves a bright and successful future. Classrooms Champions aims to address these issues and many more by using our Olympians and Paralympians as role models for success and goal setting while increasing students’ digital literacy.

Sometimes the bravest goal is a new one.

Canadian distance runner and Classroom Champions Athlete Mentor John Gay shows what the Champion Mindset looks like in action by adapting through setbacks, evolving his goals, and continuing to challenge himself at the highest level. After years of competing as an elite distance runner, John recently embraced a new challenge by stepping into marathon racing and proving that growth happens when we’re willing to keep evolving.

At Classroom Champions, we help students build goal setting skills through stories like John’s. Through mentorship, John reminds students that goals can change, expand, & grow alongside them and that resilience, adaptability, and perseverance are all apart of that journey.

Because goal setting is about continuing to discover what’s possible. 🌟

Sakura Kokumai, U.S. karate athlete and Classroom Champions Athlete Mentor, shows what the Champion Mindset looks like over time: starting young, staying committed, and continuing to believe in a goal even before the opportunity fully exists. From early training to becoming the first American woman to qualify for Olympic karate, her journey is a powerful example of resilience, discipline, and long-term growth.

At Classroom Champions, we use stories like Sakura’s to help students understand that perseverance is a skill that’s built through effort, mindset, and consistency. Through athlete mentorship and social-emotional learning, students learn lessons from Sakura on how to stay focused, overcome challenges, and keep moving forward in school, sport, and life.

Because perseverance is about pushing through and believing enough to keep going.

Champions protect their most important asset — their mind. 🧠

This May, Classroom Champions and Ask, Listen, Learn are teaming up to remind everyone that mental and emotional well-being starts with a foundation of healthy coping skills that empower you to make clear, confident choices. When you learn positive ways to handle stress, you're less likely to turn to unhealthy behaviors like underage drinking.

Say “YES” to healthy coping strategies and “NO” to risky behaviors like underage drinking.

Ask, Listen, Learn's free curriculum includes a lesson connecting mental health, brain development, and decision-making, so students have the skills to build resilience and handle challenges.
