The Sinneave Family Foundation Working with individuals, communities, and organizations to remove barriers and enhance opportunities

We work with individuals, communities and organizations to reduce barriers and enhance opportunities in education, employment and housing for autistic youth and adults. We commit to providing value to the community by contributing to advancing knowledge related to social policy issues that affect the autism community by tracking key indicators and facilitating research and evaluation. Our vision i

s that people live, learn, work and thrive in their communities and realize their desired futures. Sinneave operates The Ability Hub, a 17,000-square-foot space located on southwest corner of the University of Calgary campus. The Ability Hub is an inclusive centre for learning and community connection where Sinneave is actively involved in program development and service delivery, and where we host partner organizations, community groups and activities that support autistic youth and adults to thrive. Neurodiversity Pride Week runs from June 11-17!

Created BY neurodivergent people, FOR neurodivergent people, Neurodiversity Pride is a global movement rooted in self-acceptance, joy, and community that puts lived experience at its centre.

As allies, this week--and all year long--we celebrate neurodivergent voices and advocate for genuine inclusion in our schools, workplaces and communities.

It's a time to acknowledge and honour diverse ways of thinking, celebrate strengths, and stand together in pride, across the spectrum.

You're invited to join Autism Edmonton and researcher Jess Burylo for an engaging lunch and learn about the art of self-advocacy.

As a PhD student at University of Alberta, Jess' work exploring Autistic identity and joy is helping to change how we understand identity, accessibility, and belonging.

Together, attendees will look at what self-advocacy can look like in everyday life, how to build confidence in who you are, and how to navigate systems that were not built with you in mind.

Wednesday, June 10
12:00 - 1:00 p.m. (Mountain Time)

Reading facial expressions and interpreting body language can be a challenge for many Autistic individuals.

This is known as emotional blindness and, for some people, it makes subtle social nuance and non-spoken communication difficult to pick up on.

Join us for a fun and interactive workshop where attendees will learn to understand and interpret basic body language, exploring some of the most important non-verbal cues and learning how to read the actions and reactions of others.

Together, we'll also talk about how to adjust your own body language to aid social and communication skills.

Parents, guardians, and caregivers play an important role in the successful transition of a young adult into the workforce.

In this strengths-based workshop, we will discuss tools and strategies to help support your young adult to identify their strengths and skills and share ways you can help them create a job search plan.

An essential part of the journey is identifying your own strengths and skills and reflecting on how these can be leveraged to support your young adult well.
