URGENT: Charlie Needs a Rescue or Foster Before Shelter Life Breaks His Spirit
Meet Charlie, an 8½-year-old Rottweiler mix with a big heart packed into a compact 50-pound frame.
Charlie is not thriving in the shelter environment. The constant noise, activity, and lack of one-on-one attention have left him stressed, depressed, and slowly wasting away. He eats very little, struggles to rest, and spends his days looking sad and withdrawn in his kennel. What Charlie needs most is a quiet place where he can finally relax and feel safe again.
While shelter life is overwhelming for him, those who know Charlie see the wonderful dog hidden beneath the anxiety. He is house-trained, crate-trained, obedient, and incredibly affectionate with people. Charlie forms strong bonds with his humans and loves being close to them. A calm home with a predictable routine is where he truly shines.
One of Charlie’s favorite things in the world is playing fetch. Give him a ball and a fenced yard, and he’ll happily entertain himself for hours. He still has plenty of life and joy left in him and loves having an outlet for his energy.
Because he’s a nervous dog, Charlie can be vocal when he encounters other animals on walks. He has successfully used a Gentle Leader headcollar, which helps him stay calm and focused. His reactions come from anxiety rather than aggression, and with patient guidance, he is a wonderful companion.
Charlie could live with a dog-savvy cat that is comfortable setting boundaries. He has adapted well to cats in the past. Due to being neutered later in life, he cannot live with male dogs but may do well with a very calm, gentle female dog, particularly a smaller breed. That said, Charlie’s ideal home would likely be one where he can soak up all the attention from his favorite people and perhaps share it with a feline friend.
At 8½ years old, Charlie deserves comfort, security, and love—not the stress of shelter life. He is running out of time to find the quiet home or rescue placement he desperately needs. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless affection, Charli is waiting for you.
