Ontario Streams is deeply saddened to share the recent passing of one of our cherished board members, past president Bob Giza. Bob became involved with Ontario Streams through his passion for conservation and education, bringing with him a deep commitment to protecting cold-water ecosystems and inspiring others to do the same.

His involvement with Ontario Streams began during his time teaching at Chaminade College, where he led trout stocking and stream restoration projects with his students. Ontario Streams provided early advisory support, and the partnership was formalized when Bob joined the organization’s Board of Directors in 2002. For more than two decades thereafter, his dedication, passion, and service remained constant, impactful, and deeply valued.

Bob had a profound love for the outdoors and for conservation. This was evident throughout both his teaching career and his many years of volunteer service with Ontario Streams. Whenever Bob spoke to a group about cold-water streams or brook trout, his enthusiasm was unmistakable and felt as much as it was heard. His passion for protecting the natural environment inspired Ontario Streams to continually expand our restoration efforts and extend our reach into new watersheds. One particularly meaningful expression of this legacy was his long-standing involvement with the Adopt A Stream program on Black Creek in Toronto.

The contribution he Made to Ontario Streams was defined not only by the length of his service, but by the care, integrity, and leadership he brought to everything he did. His steadfast commitment to the environment and to the communities he worked with has left a lasting mark on our organization and on the waterways he so deeply cared for. Bob will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and affection by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
