Over the past 3 years, Second Mile Haiti has shown what resilience, adaptation, and community-driven care can achieve.

With support from S.H.A.R.E. Agriculture Foundation, SMH expanded from 1 to 3 Malnutrition/Maternity Centres while continuing to strengthen families beyond recovery from malnutrition. Along the way, the team adjusted to real-world challenges - from early difficulty accessing garden tools and goats, to refining the program based on what was working best on the ground.

Some of the most encouraging lessons from this project included the success of the business kit program, the anticipated impact of community-based gardening approaches, and the effective system of follow-up, training, and accountability that helps malnutrition graduates qualify for Business Kit number 1 and later Business Kit number 2.

This final report also highlights something even more powerful: the voices of women and families whose lives have changed through these efforts. Their stories, gardens, small businesses, and renewed hope reflect the heart of S.H.A.R.E.’s mission.

As this work continues into 2025-2028, the new focus on community gardens will be an important area to watch.

“Those with the least give the most.”

After joining S.H.A.R.E. President Gary Shaw on a monitoring trip to Honduras, Communications Specialist Owen Graham returned with a powerful story about generosity, resilience, and the lasting impact of partnership.

From delivering a water pump to a community in the early stages of development, to witnessing how families collect drinking water and support one another despite limited resources, Owen’s reflections offer a firsthand look at the communities behind S.H.A.R.E.’s work.

One lesson stayed with him throughout the journey: those with the least often give the most.

Read Owen’s full article, “Those with the Least Give the Most”, in our Spring 2026 newsletter.
