CALLING ALL ARTISTS

Making Change invites you to be part of a powerful community art experience as we gather creative inspiration for our upcoming Black Healthcare Professionals brochure serving Simcoe County.

We’re calling on artists, whether emerging or experienced, or simply passionate, to explore this question: What inspires you as an artist when you think about Black health, wellness, and care?

Workshop Dates:
Tuesday, June 9, 5 - 7 pm
Saturday, June 13, 1 - 3 pm
MacLaren Art Centre

To register your spot, go to the link: https://maclarenart.com/product/healing-in-colour-a-community-art-workshop-on-black-health/

Together, we’ll reflect, create, and contribute ideas that will help shape the visual identity of a resource designed to support our community in accessing culturally meaningful healthcare.

Making Change received a microgrant from Alectra Utilities to create a brochure listing Black Healthcare Professionals who serve Simcoe County.

There will be an art workshop for amateur artists to work on the brochure's design and layout. Facilitated by local artist Andrew Mattis, of Innisfil, who is a multi-disciplinary visual artist in Innisfil, who works primarily in oil paintings.

When completed, the brochures will also be distributed throughout Simcoe County to key locations where Black communities gather, access information and connect.

We’re calling on artists, whether emerging or experienced, to explore this question:
What inspires you as an artist when you think about Black health, wellness, and care?

Making Change, in partnership with the MacLaren Art Centre, will provide a creative and inspiring space where you can contribute ideas that will help shape the visual look of a
resource designed to support our Black community in accessing culturally meaningful
healthcare.

Workshop Dates
● Tuesday, June 9 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
● Saturday, June 13 | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Let’s build stronger connections together.

Forest Hill Public School held a family community event this past Wednesday. They highlighted the creative works students had done with our Art Engagement Project that focused on Inclusion & Diversity.

Thank you to our incredible art mentors and anti-racism presenters for covering all the classes.

Students engaged with visual arts, poetry, dance, photography and music to look at how they can change the narrative through the arts.

"When it comes to steelpan, all are welcome."

The kids learned about diversity, inclusion, culture, art and music. Most importantly they learned that it's okay to be different.

The kids were asked, "what would happen if everyone looked the same".

Their answer, "that would be boring!"

Alcona Glen Elementary School, thank you for hosting and trusting us with your little ones.

° Thanks to MC presenter

° Thanks to for his teaching and engaging those young minds.

° Thanks to our program assistants & for their assistance.

And an extra special thanks to for their attendance, and continued support.

Building our "Village" is so crucial, don't you think?

It's about creating that strong support system where everyone feels seen and uplifted. Don't you love seeing how we come together to share knowledge and lift each other up?

This month let's keep fostering these connections, like a beautiful garden, in every neighbourhood. Because when the Village thrives, we all thrive!
