What an incredible few days at Blue Mountain for the OHBA Conference!

There’s something so valuable about stepping away from the day-to-day to learn, share ideas and connect. It was so wonderful to spend time with colleagues and friends from across the province — catching up, exchanging ideas and having some great conversations about our industry.

The sessions were informative and engaging, and I came home feeling energized and grateful to be part of such a passionate group of people working to move our industry forward.

It was also wonderful to celebrate outgoing OHBA Chair Christina Giannone and everything she has accomplished during her year of leadership, while welcoming incoming Chair Tom McLaughlin. Congratulations to you both — we look forward to another great year ahead for OHBA!

A special congratulations as well to our own Michelle Nikitin on being elected to the OHBA Board of Directors! We are so proud to have Michelle representing SCHBA and our members at the provincial level.

And of course, this conference was made even more special for our SCHBA team as we were incredibly honoured to be recognized as OHBA Local Association of the Year!

So proud of what we continue to accomplish together at SCHBA and grateful for the relationships, collaboration and friendships that make opportunities like this so worthwhile.

What an incredible honour!

I’m so thrilled that the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association has been named the 2026 OHBA Local Association of the Year!

This recognition reflects the incredible team behind SCHBA and the collective effort, energy and commitment that continues to move our association forward.

As CEO, it’s incredibly rewarding to see our work recognized in this way. I’m so grateful to be part of such a strong team and excited for all that’s ahead!

A significant investment in housing and growth for Barrie.

SCHBA welcomes the announcement that the City of Barrie will receive $129 million through Ontario’s Development Charge Reduction Program, following Council’s decision to reduce residential development charges by 50%.

This is exactly the kind of action our industry has been advocating for — reducing the cost of building new homes while ensuring municipalities have the infrastructure needed to support growth.

The funding will help advance critical wastewater infrastructure, supporting new housing and Barrie’s continued growth.

We commend the City of Barrie and the Province of Ontario for recognizing that addressing development costs and infrastructure together is essential to getting more homes built.

SCHBA looks forward to continuing to work with all levels of government on practical solutions that improve housing affordability and increase housing supply across Simcoe County.

Minister Khanjin shared updates on Ontario’s work to streamline permits, reduce red tape and create greater certainty for housing and development approvals.

A valuable discussion and Q&A on the challenges facing our industry and the opportunities to keep moving housing forward.
