UBC Uncle Bobs Club

UBC Uncle Bobs Club UBC Uncle Bobs Club has been raising money to support children's health since 1942.

In December of 1941, while the world was at war, a raffle book was passed around the Riversdale Hotel in Hawthorn. The money raised would be donated to the Children’s Hospital to benefit their Orthopaedic section. Four men at the bar that night were so moved, they decided to form a group to raise money for the Children’s Hospital, year-round. The membership fee would be a shilling (a “bob”) a week

– and in January of 1942, Uncle Bobs Club began. Over the years, the Club has expanded – forming groups in regional Victoria, allowing our mission to support children’s health to reach beyond The Royal Children’s Hospital, and into local communities.

Why Kokoda? | The 1942 Connection

1942. Two stories began. One legacy continues❤️

In 1942, ordinary young Australians faced extraordinary circumstances along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.

Their courage, resilience, mateship and sacrifice became part of Australia's story.
That same year, 1942, Uncle Bobs Club was founded, beginning a commitment to supporting children's health that continues today.

More than 84 years later, we're bringing these two stories together.

In July 2027, we'll walk the Kokoda Track to honour the legacy of those who came before us, while raising funds to create a healthier future for the children who come after us.

I C Y M I: Not every child experiences a birthday party, school disco, or community event in the same way.

For many neurodivergent children, environments that are loud, crowded, or unpredictable can be overwhelming, meaning they often miss out on experiences that many families take for granted.

That's why we are proud to present UBC's Little Groovers Silent Disco, a one-of-a-kind, sensory-friendly community event designed specifically for children aged 4–12 years and their families.

With wireless headphones, adjustable volume, multiple music channels, a calm sensory space, and an inclusive environment, Little Groovers has been thoughtfully created so every child can enjoy the magic of dancing, laughing, and celebrating in a way that feels safe and comfortable.

This isn't just another children's event.

It's about belonging.
It's about inclusion.
It's about ensuring every child has the opportunity to create joyful memories with their family.

We're incredibly grateful to the sponsors, supporters, and volunteers helping bring this vision to life. Together, we're proving that when we design events with inclusion at the heart, everyone benefits.

We can't wait to welcome our Little Groovers to the dance floor!
