Since 2019, I have had the privilege of being involved with the North Cyprus Turkish Community of Victoria—first as a community member and, later, as its President.
What brought me into this role was the belief that people placed in me. What motivated me to take on the presidency, however, was something much deeper: a commitment to putting my academic knowledge, skills and networks in service of our community.
Since commencing this journey, I have worked independently, with the committee and alongside others on numerous grant applications, community projects and events. I have also had the privilege of leading the Centre’s major renovation project in partnership with Varcon Group, with the support and trust of our community.
Beyond these visible achievements, much of my work has involved building internal structures, strengthening operational systems, and developing meaningful networks between our community, not-for-profit organisations, and local, state and federal governments. The intention throughout has been to strengthen our organisation, create greater opportunities for our community, and elevate the visibility and recognition of Cypriot Turks in Victoria.
It has truly been a privilege to build on the work of those who came before me and to serve our community. I am deeply grateful for the trust, support and belief that have made this journey possible.
I wish the new committee every success in the next chapter of the Centre’s journey. To Numan, a very dear friend, I wish you all the very best as you take on the role of President. I have every hope that you will lead with care, commitment and a strong sense of service to our community.
I leave the role with gratitude, pride and confidence in the future of our community.
Lutfiye Ali 💕
