DEAR ABYEI COMMUNITY
By Deng Akot
LET ME REMIND YOU OF THIS SERIOUS ISSUE THAT DESERVE OUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND COLLECTIVE CONCERN.
It is deeply disappointing to see one of our fellow Abyei youths, Mr. Yuot Nyok Kueth, blackmailed and unfairly dismissed from his contract with the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) without any concrete evidence. The accusation that he fought his supervisor during his previous work with RA Company has no official report or timely complaint. If such an incident truly occurred, the alleged victim should have reported it immediately, not long after the fact.
Mr. Yuot Nyok Kueth had recently secured a new contract with UNISFA as a security guard, officially resuming his duties on 1st September 2025. Unfortunately, the same individual who previously had an issue with him took advantage of his reappointment, colluding with certain people within the UN system to blackmail and have his contract terminated based on false claims.
What is even more troubling is that instead of conducting a proper and fair investigation, UNISFA took sides, which contradicts both UN principles and legal standards. Moreover, the Local Coordination Office (LCO) sent a message to the Paramount Chief stating that we're terminating Yuot's contract because of a problem with your niece, Achai, when the problem is not between Achai and Yuot However, Achai was present during the alleged incident and could serve as a witness meaning this explanation does not add up and suggests a deliberate setup by certain individuals within the UN structure.
Therefore, with deep concern, I am appealing to the local authorities, stakeholders, and community leaders to look into this matter urgently.
We, the youth of Abyei, cannot remain silent while our people are unfairly treated and humiliated in our own homeland in the name of the UN.
I also call upon:
🔹️Abyei Civil Society
🔹️Chiefs of the Nine Chiefdoms
🔹️Women Leaders
🔹️Youths Leaders
to stand together and investigate this alarming issue. According to my observation, this act against Yuot is a test of our unity and response. If we stay silent today, tomorrow it could be someone else facing the same injustice.
Let us raise our voices and protect the dignity of our people.
Sincerely,
Deng Akot koldau
