Colourful walls and even brighter futures. Education is worth smiling about🤗 🦋

These joyful little ones are from Ghyangfedi in remote Nepal. Together with local communities, we’re helping ensure children have access to quality education, no matter where they live.

We’re proud to support over 2,000 students across 15 Adara supported schools, with more than half of them girls — bringing quality education to some of the most remote communities.

We wanted to share an update on the Ebola situation in DRC and the recent cases in Uganda, and what it means for Adara.

You may have seen that WHO has declared this a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. At this stage, we remain grateful that there is no confirmed local transmission in Uganda. The Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH) continues to mount a strong and proactive response.

In Uganda, there have been two confirmed cases so far, both imported from DRC. This is serious but still contained. That said, the outbreak in DRC is significant, so we do need to stay alert.

Uganda – and our teams – have faced this before. We have worked through Ebola outbreaks in close proximity to our project sites over many years, and we know that our team and the Ugandan health worker community is skilled at managing the risk.

Our priority is on staying ahead of this and being practical in our preparation. We know that effective control depends on speed, trust, protecting health workers, clear information for families, and finding cases early before disease spreads.

As always, we are sharply focused on the safety of our teams, their families and the communities that we work with.

Our hearts are with all the families affected. We’ll continue to monitor closely and keep you updated as things evolve.

“I am not just a mother who worries… I finally, truly, smile.”

For many families, raising a child with a neurodisability can mean isolation, stigma, and limited access to care.

Before joining Baby Ubuntu, Amina describes her world as “small, lonely, and silent”. Raising her two-year-old daughter Lucy alone, she faced fear and uncertainty.

Through Baby Ubuntu, Amina found the tools and support to care for her daughter – and connection through community.

Today, Lucy is growing stronger every day – and Amina’s smile has returned.

“My girl can now sit. Watching her feels like a miracle,” Amina says.

Take a look at just how remote our partner communities in Humla, Nepal really are.

Located high in the Himalayas along the Tibetan–Nepali border, Humla is one of the most isolated regions in the country. Villages sit on steep hillsides, separated by rugged terrain and long walking distances.

In this video, Angjuk Lama, our Head of Community Resilience and Partnerships, gives a bird’s eye view of Adara’s partner communities across the valley. A Humli local himself, Angjuk knows the strength, determination and resilience of the people who live here.

Since 1998, we’ve worked alongside communities in Humla to improve health and education outcomes.

Kangaroo care is a simple yet important practice that helps babies – particularly those born too soon – to thrive. It involves continuous skin-to-skin contact that helps tiny babies grow and develop.

Today is Kangaroo Care Awareness Day. This year’s theme “Stillness is Strength” reminds us that a parent’s warmth, heartbeat and breath are powerful medicine – supporting growth, feeding, stimulation and protection from infection.

We feel deeply privileged to work alongside incredible mothers across the globe. One of our goals is to increase maternal survival in Uganda and Nepal.

We’re committed to building a world in which every mother gives birth safely, receives quality healthcare and has access to the support they need. Thank you for helping us make this possible. 💙

When global crises ripple outward, they don’t land equally.

Rising energy costs and supply‑chain disruption are hitting remote and low‑income communities first — including in Nepal, where 79% of people live in rural and remote areas.

Adara works in some of the country’s most isolated communities, including Humla in the remote Himalayas. Here, volatility in fuel and freight costs are quickly translating into higher programme costs, harder logistics, and increased pressure on essential services.

At Adara, we’re responding carefully and decisively — drawing on decades of experience navigating global shocks.

Our focus remains unchanged: helping remote communities access health, education and other essential services, even as conditions become more difficult, and sharing our knowledge locally, nationally and globally to amplify our impact.

When organisations, communities and funders come together around proven solutions, we can build systems that last – and save more lives well into the future.

Through our partnership, Adara and Babies and Mothers Alive (BAMA) share core components of our work — enabling each organisation to implement evidence-based approaches in new settings.

With catalytic support from Rippleworks and Lever for Change, high-impact programmes like Hospital to Home and health worker mentorship are being taken to scale.

That’s what our joint Sidebar event with BAMA in Oxford was all about — sharing lessons from decades of cross‑sector health partnerships and exploring what it takes to strengthen health systems for the long term.

What an inspiring evening listening to The Hon. Julia Gillard AC in conversation with Adara’s founder, Audette Exel AO, at Women Deliver.

Together, they explored the future of global health post aid cuts, and philanthropy’s vital role in protecting and advancing maternal and newborn outcomes.

The key takeaway? The global aid landscape has shifted, and there’s no going back. We need new, collaborative ways to support communities — rethinking how resources flow and how we work together to meet today’s challenges.

At Adara, we’re focused on saving lives now, while also helping reshape the systems and structures that will support communities into the future.
