Chinese Thread Book

DATE: 19th July 2025
TIME: 9.30am – 4.00pm

You will make a Chinese thread book with fifteen secret pockets. Guest tutor Kathy Lobo will recount the rich history of this form, which originates from Northern China. She will show several variations of the thread book and explain how you can use the ‘secret pocket’ structures in your own artists books. You will learn how to make several ‘secret pocket' structures, each of which can be scaled up or down for use in other projects. Some experience in folding paper experience is advantageous. A kit of Lokta paper, card stock for templates and a cover, ribbon and glue are provided. You can bring coloured papers, decorative papers or old artwork for embellishment. These can be collaged onto the cover and inside the thread book. You can bring ribbon to match, or use what is provided.
