KTF We're an Australian development NGO changing lives, livelihoods and futures across Papua New Guinea.

We work alongside people and communities to deliver projects in education, health, equality and leadership right across the country. We work to improve lives, livelihoods and futures, keeping the great friendship between Australia and Papua New Guinea and the spirit of Kokoda alive. Expanding beyond our original focus region of Kokoda in Oro Province, KTF now works with communities across 17 of PN

G’s 22 provinces....and we have big plans for 2022 and beyond. Our team, 85 percent who are Papua New Guineans, work in partnership with communities to identify their needs and strengths, and together implement programs in the vital areas of education, health, equality and leadership that achieve long-term change. Projects that aim to train high quality teachers and community health workers, provide these professionals with mentoring and professional development opportunities, build educational and health infrastructure, fund the ongoing maintenance and resourcing of schools and aid posts, and provide remuneration to teachers and health workers across rural regions. Projects are supported by the installation of solar energy and light systems to off-grid households in related communities, powering their success. We also promote equality for all and advocate for a zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence, help to generate sustainable income-generating opportunities for women in remote areas, and promote gender equity amongst adolescents through the fun of soccer. Looking to the future, we find and foster the next generation of leaders among final year tertiary students from across PNG. KTF is a member of the Australian Council for International Development and has full accreditation with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trades’ ANCP program; their high standards for operation are integral to everything we do.

'An Evening with the Archer Leaders' in Brisbane marked the conclusion of an incredible 2026 Australian Exchange.

The event brought together Archer alumni, partners and supporters to hear first hand from the Archer Leaders about their leadership journeys, the challenges they've overcome, and their hopes for Papua New Guinea's future.

We were honoured to be joined by Papua New Guinea Consul General, Mr Reatau Rau, who described the Archer Leaders as the "pinnacle of promise", along with Mackhenly Kaiok, Chief of Staff at Kina Bank , Manon Dumas, Deputy High Commissioner for Canada to Australia, and Alissa Bermingham, Philanthropy and Non-Profit Services Manager at Perpetual. The event was hosted by long-term KTF ambassador, the extraordinary Sharyn Ghidella, from 10 News.

Have you heard about our Kicks 4 Kokoda tournaments?

The Kicks 4 Kokoda (K4K) tournament roadshow travelled across Oro - from Awala to Kiorota, Gorari, Kebara and finally Kokoda.

These tournaments mark the end of the 9-week K4K soccer program which uses the power of soccer to connect youth with the mentors, information and health services they need to thrive. This round was one of our biggest ever - with over 460 participants gaining critical skills and information!

A huge thank you to PNG Olympic Committee HERO athletes, who facilitated tournament matches, led athletic activities and provided mentorship and inspiration to participants, and to Just Play , who joined the fun and helped engage even more young people through sport.

We were also thrilled to have incredible local community organisations join the tournaments to host information and awareness booths, including:

πŸ’š ORO Organisation of Person with Disability promoting disability inclusion and awareness
πŸ’™ Community Development covering critical topics of gender-based violence & referral pathways

K4K is about so much more than soccer. It's about creating safe spaces, building confidence, strengthening communities and empowering the next generation with the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices.

Safe Sport starts with all of us!

Sport should always be a safe place for children and young people. That's why KTF provides child protection and safeguarding training to all staff and partners involved in the Kicks 4 Kokoda program. πŸ¦‹

This Safe Sports Day, we delivered training to PNGOC HERO athletes who travel to communities across Oro Province to support our K4K tournaments.

Sharpen your pencils - KTF's first-ever mid-year FODE exams are underway!

Across our PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd. Balimo FODE Centre (delivered in partnership with KTF) and our FODE Centres in Komo and Pari & Taurama, supported by ExxonMobil PNG and Sir Theo Foundation , more than 150 students are sitting their Grade 12 mid-year national exams.

These exams allow students who have completed all their assignments early to sit their final exams ahead of schedule....and finish Grade 12 sooner.

Every exam is another step towards completing high school. One step determines their results, the next helps shape their future.

Archer Leaders have travelled to the heart of Australia! 🧑

From the red sands of Uluru to Mparntwe (Alice Springs), the Archer Leaders were immersed in Australia's Red Centre, experiencing one of the world's oldest continuous living cultures and exploring how ancient knowledge, culture and leadership continue to shape modern Australia.

Their five-day program was packed with leadership workshops, cultural experiences, and visits to organisations creating positive change in Indigenous communities.

Immersion included visits to:

πŸ¦‹ Children's Ground - supporting First Nations children and families through learning on Country
πŸ¦‹ The Purple House - delivering culturally safe health, wellbeing and aged care services to remote communities
πŸ¦‹ Uluru sunrise - learning of AαΉ‰angu life from the Traditional Owners by campfire at the Cultural Centre.
πŸ¦‹ Kulintja Kutju - paralleling the Archers, their NPY Emerging Leaders Program supports young AαΉ‰angu to build skills, confidence and leadership for strong, community-led futures.
πŸ¦‹ Standley Chasm-Angkerle - learning about this spectacular geological formation, a sacred place to the Arrernte people
πŸ¦‹ Desert Knowledge Precinct – exploring innovation, sustainability and leadership in Central Australia

The Archers also had the opportunity to meet with the senior leadership team from the Alice Springs Town Council, gaining insight into local government, civic leadership and community development.

These experiences are designed to broaden perspectives, challenge assumptions, and inspire the next generation of leaders to think deeply about culture, community and leadership.

Today, we say farewell to one of Australia's great Kokoda heroes.

KTF is deeply saddened by the passing of Reg Chard - one of the last surviving veterans of the Kokoda Campaign, a cherished friend of our organisation, and a man whose humility, wisdom and generosity touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

For more than two decades, Reg stood alongside KTF as we worked to keep the Spirit of Kokoda alive. He generously shared his stories with our supporters, inspired countless young Australians and Papua New Guineans, and reminded us all that the true legacy of Kokoda is one of courage, service, mateship and enduring friendship between our two nations. KTF itself was founded to honour that shared history and carry its spirit forward through practical action in Papua New Guinea.

One of our most treasured memories is watching artist Jeffrey Feeger capture Reg's remarkable character on canvas. The portrait reflects not only the soldier he was, but the gentle, thoughtful and deeply respected man he remained throughout his life.

The Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway was a special place for Reg, where he continued in service as a volunteer guide. It was only fitting that this was where KTF Ambassador Michael Usher presented Reg with his portrait in 2020. Even a global pandemic could not dampen Reg's indomitable spirit.

Today, in tribute to Reg, we share that special moment again.

Thank you, Reg, for your service, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment to ensuring the Kokoda story would never be forgotten. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

Today, on Remembrance Day in Papua New Guinea, we honour those who served during the Second World War and in all military service to their country.

We remember the Papua New Guinean soldiers and the legendary Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels. Their endurance, courage, sacrifice and mateship saved countless Australian lives during the Kokoda Campaign.

Their actions created an enduring legacy that continues to unite Papua New Guinea and Australia.

More than 80 years later, that same spirit of service lives on. We see it in our students, teachers, health workers, advocacy workers and young leaders who work every day to create brighter futures for their communities.

As we pause to remember those who served, we also honour the enduring spirit of Kokoda that continues to inspire courage, service and hope.

Delving into the heart of Australia's financial sector!

As part of their Australian exchange, Archer Leaders Colin Moala (Business – PAU) and Tairah Taiap (Business & Accounting – UNITECH) undertook professional work experience placements with the Reserve Bank of Australia and Westpac - two institutions that play a vital role in Australia's economy.

At the Reserve Bank of Australia, they learned about the Bank's role in supporting Australia's economy and financial system.

At Westpac, they gained firsthand experience of the banking industry and how banks support customers, businesses and communities.

Through these placements, Colin and Tairah had the opportunity to engage with industry leaders, deepen their understanding of economics and finance, and see how strong institutions support economic growth and development.

A huge thank you to the teams at the Reserve Bank of Australia and Westpac for generously sharing your time, knowledge and expertise with the Archer Leaders.

Long-term partnerships create lasting opportunities. πŸ’™πŸ’š

The Sir Theo Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to second-chance education, presenting a cheque for K280,000 to support KTF's Pari and Taurama FODE Centre.

Now in our third year of partnership, STF has invested K720,000 since 2024. This has helped 466 students from Pari, Taurama and the surrounding communities access a second chance at secondary education.

As Sir Theo Foundation Chairman, George Constantinou, shared: "Not everyone gets to walk a straight line through school, and what matters is whether there is a way back on."

Real change takes long-term investment.

How do we create stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities in Papua New Guinea?

KTF CEO Dr Genevieve Nelson was delighted to speak on two panels at CANCONEX at Papua New Guinea Resources Week 2026. She highlighted how long-term partnerships can drive lasting development.

On the panel "Strengthening inclusive development through GESI, foundations, and community partnerships", Gen spoke about the importance designing programs that break down barriers to access, leaving no one behind.

During the panel "Improving health, safety, and wellbeing outcomes in resource-affected communities", Gen highlighted that healthy communities are built through more than healthcare. Education, strong local leadership and long-term investment in people all play an important role in improving health and wellbeing.

Thank you to the PNG Chamber of Resources & Energy for bringing together leaders from across government, industry and the development sector to share ideas and strengthen partnerships for PNG's future.
