KTF We're an Australian development NGO changing lives, livelihoods and futures across Papua New Guinea.

We work alongside people and communities to deliver projects in education, health, equality and leadership right across the country. We work to improve lives, livelihoods and futures, keeping the great friendship between Australia and Papua New Guinea and the spirit of Kokoda alive. Expanding beyond our original focus region of Kokoda in Oro Province, KTF now works with communities across 17 of PNG’s 22 provinces....and we have big plans for 2022 and beyond. Our team, 85 percent who are Papua New Guineans, work in partnership with communities to identify their needs and strengths, and together implement programs in the vital areas of education, health, equality and leadership that achieve long-term change. Projects that aim to train high quality teachers and community health workers, provide these professionals with mentoring and professional development opportunities, build educational and health infrastructure, fund the ongoing maintenance and resourcing of schools and aid posts, and provide remuneration to teachers and health workers across rural regions. Projects are supported by the installation of solar energy and light systems to off-grid households in related communities, powering their success. We also promote equality for all and advocate for a zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence, help to generate sustainable income-generating opportunities for women in remote areas, and promote gender equity amongst adolescents through the fun of soccer. Looking to the future, we find and foster the next generation of leaders among final year tertiary students from across PNG. KTF is a member of the Australian Council for International Development and has full accreditation with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trades’ ANCP program; their high standards for operation are integral to everything we do.

Today, on World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the teachers who make education possible across Papua New Guinea. 🍎📚🇵🇬

From Early Childhood Education and primary classrooms, through secondary and FODE, to colleges and tertiary institutions, teachers are opening doors to learning and opportunity every day.

We celebrate those who have dedicated decades to teaching, as well as newly qualified teachers beginning their journey and bringing fresh energy to their schools and communities.

Across our projects, we see the dedication, resilience and determination this takes. Many teachers work in remote locations, often with limited resources and significant challenges - yet they continue to show up, adapt, encourage and inspire.

Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom.

This World Teachers’ Day, we thank teachers across Papua New Guinea for their commitment to their students, their communities and the future of PNG. 💙

A week of health learning and collaboration in Oro Province 🩺📚

This week, 37 health workers from across Oro have come together at KTF’s Kokoda College for five days of training focused on HIV counselling and testing, and preventing HIV transmission.

The training is being led by the National Department of Health’s STI HIV Program Team, with support from the Northern Provincial Health Authority, and coordinated by KTF through our Healthy Communities project.

Bringing together health workers from across the province, the week is a chance to build skills, share knowledge and strengthen the way national, provincial and community health teams work together.

A great example of partnership in action, with everyone playing a part in strengthening healthcare for communities across Oro Province!

Safety first! 🩹

Our work takes us to some of the most remote parts of Papua New Guinea. Challenging terrain, breathtaking landscapes…and often a long way from medical assistance if something goes wrong.

That’s why our PNG and Australian teams have been building their First on the Scene skills with SOTER.

From CPR and snake bites to responding to incidents in the field, the training is strengthening our safety, preparedness and ability to act when help isn’t close by.

We hope we never need these skills. But when you work where we do, we’re very glad to have them - just in case.

Local champions stand up against gender-based violence 💙 💚

Community members are saying no to GBV - and yes to becoming GBV champions.

They are everyday people, professionals and community leaders. But they all share one goal: to help stop violence and support others.

Through KTF’s Project Zero, 35 local GBV champions have been equipped with practical training and tools to lead awareness sessions in their communities. They are using their knowledge, experience and local connections to build stronger networks of support and help create communities where everyone can live free from violence.

This community-led work is made possible with support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program . Together, we’re backing local people to lead change that starts in their own communities. 🦋

Our Kicks 4 Kokoda coaches have the SKILLZ ⚽

Old and new Kicks 4 Kokoda (K4K) coaches joined a 4-day SKILLZ training in Kokoda - building their knowledge and skills to be great coaches and mentors for young people.

The training covered topics from the 9-week SKILLZ curriculum, including:
🦋 Rights & responsibility
🦋 Harmful gender norms
🦋 Peer pressure
🦋 Healthy communication & consent
🦋 Sexual and reproductive health
🦋 Future goals

Coaches also learnt how to keep children safe, recognise and report signs of harm, and make K4K welcoming and inclusive for people with disability.

With support from Team Up, an Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade sport for development partnership, coaches are equipped to create safe spaces where young people can build confidence, develop life skills and make positive choices - on and off the field.

Now they're ready for the next round of K4K, kicking off this September! ⚽

Book week has arrived at Kokoda College FODE! 📚

This years theme is "Read a book, reset your future / Ritim Buk, Sensim Bihain Taim".

Reading is powerful. It builds knowledge, opens our minds to new ideas and can transport us to another world. 🌏

Students at Kokoda College embraced Book Week by heading to the campus library to choose a book and get reading. They also presented their favourite book characters, created posters and dressed up.

For these students, the theme is especially fitting.

Kokoda College provides second-chance education pathways for students from across the Kokoda catchment to return to the classroom, complete high school and create new opportunities for their futures.

With support from the Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program , KTF is helping make these pathways possible - giving students the opportunity to learn, grow and shape what comes next.

'An Evening with the Archer Leaders' in Brisbane marked the conclusion of an incredible 2026 Australian Exchange.

The event brought together Archer alumni, partners and supporters to hear first hand from the Archer Leaders about their leadership journeys, the challenges they've overcome, and their hopes for Papua New Guinea's future.

We were honoured to be joined by Papua New Guinea Consul General, Mr Reatau Rau, who described the Archer Leaders as the "pinnacle of promise", along with Mackhenly Kaiok, Chief of Staff at Kina Bank , Manon Dumas, Deputy High Commissioner for Canada to Australia, and Alissa Bermingham, Philanthropy and Non-Profit Services Manager at Perpetual. The event was hosted by long-term KTF ambassador, the extraordinary Sharyn Ghidella, from 10 News.

Have you heard about our Kicks 4 Kokoda tournaments?

The Kicks 4 Kokoda (K4K) tournament roadshow travelled across Oro - from Awala to Kiorota, Gorari, Kebara and finally Kokoda.

These tournaments mark the end of the 9-week K4K soccer program which uses the power of soccer to connect youth with the mentors, information and health services they need to thrive. This round was one of our biggest ever - with over 460 participants gaining critical skills and information!

A huge thank you to PNG Olympic Committee HERO athletes, who facilitated tournament matches, led athletic activities and provided mentorship and inspiration to participants, and to Just Play , who joined the fun and helped engage even more young people through sport.

We were also thrilled to have incredible local community organisations join the tournaments to host information and awareness booths, including:
💙 Health care workers providing HIV testing and health information
💚 ORO Organisation of Person with Disability promoting disability inclusion and awareness
💙 Community Development covering critical topics of gender-based violence & referral pathways

K4K is about so much more than soccer. It's about creating safe spaces, building confidence, strengthening communities and empowering the next generation with the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices.

A huge congratulations to every participant, volunteer coach, HERO athlete, teacher, partner and community member who made this season such a success.

Keep an eye out for K4K coming to your Oro community later this year! ⚽🦋
