Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking

A training exercise involving volunteers from Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking, NSW Police Marine Area Command and Pol Air will take place on local waters tomorrow (Thursday 27 August) from 8am until early afternoon.

There will be increased emergency services activity in the air and on the waters of Bate Bay and Port Hacking. Members of the community are advised not to be alarmed.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers from Botany Port Hacking will continue to maintain radio operations and on-water response capabilities throughout the exercise should assistance be required by boaters.

The community can be assured that, in the event of a real emergency, rescue vessels and crews remain ready to respond.

High pathogenicity H5N1 avian influenza (H5 bird flu) has now been confirmed in a wild bird in Western Australia

There are no cases of H5 bird flu in NSW.

This strain of H5N1 avian influenza (H5 bird flu) has had significant impacts overseas

H5N1 avian influenza (H5 bird flu) has caused widespread mortality among wild birds, poultry, and some mammals overseas.

The NSW Government has established a comprehensive response plan and is supporting Western Australia in containing and eradicating H5 bird flu in the shortest possible time.

The NSW Government is urging the public to look out for sick or dead wild birds, particularly in coastal areas. If you do see sick or dead wild birds:

AVOID: handling the birds as there is a risk that it could affect humans

RECORD: take photos or videos and record the location
