Lana* came by our Greeves St craft group last week. She’d been before, but her life can get hectic, so it’s hard to be there weekly. Luckily our craft group allows space for complex lives and women are welcomed whenever it works. For the full hour, Lana concentrated on learning her new skill and sewed a gorgeous wheat bag. She was - rightly! - delighted and proud of her achievement “it’s so pretty”.

Compassion grows when hearing the backstory to people’s experience of addiction or homelessness… and because stories can get heavy, rounding out the session with crafting keeps the moment gentle. These cute cards will be sold at our Op Shop, meaning that the students also become a part of the solution.

Good360 Australia reported that 20% of Australians are struggling with hygiene poverty. Our Drop In is on the frontline of this challenge, and last month we distributed 60 hygiene packs through our centre (plus providing showers, a laundry facility, and toilets). This is one of the important ways that we uphold the dignity of each person we serve.
