Prost! 🍻 Our aged care homes have been getting into the Oktoberfest spirit!

Traditional outfits, fun photos and delicious German-inspired food and drinks made for a festive celebration with a little taste of German tradition.

There was plenty to celebrate at Evergreen Retirement Village yesterday as the community marked its 20th anniversary!

20 years ago, the first 11 residents moved into the village in Pakenham. Today, Evergreen is home to 92 residents!

Residents and our team came together for a special anniversary lunch. It was a chance for more of our team to share stories, get to know residents and hear what makes Evergreen such a special place to call home.

Happy 20th anniversary, Evergreen! We’re so pleased to be part of the community and look forward to the years ahead.

Meet Tracey, who recently celebrated 40 years of service at O’Mara House in Traralgon!

Tracey joined our aged care home as a cleaner while still at secondary school and has since worked across personal care, hospitality, laundry and supervisory roles. Today, she is O’Mara House’s Reception and Administration Officer.

Four decades on, her passion for aged care remains strong:

“Aged care is more than a job for me; it is an opportunity to make a difference to individuals and advocate for the care, respect, dignity and quality of life they deserve.”

We were so pleased to celebrate Tracey's milestone at our Employee Awards in September.

Today is International Day of Older Persons – a day to recognise and celebrate the lives, experiences and contributions of older people.

Every person has a story. The places they’ve been, the work they’ve done, the people they’ve met and the experiences that have shaped them all form part of who they are today.

At mecwacare, we know there’s always more to discover about the older people we support.

Caring for yourself is just as important as caring for others. 💙

At the Phillip Island Senior Citizens Centre, we were pleased to host Kim Repcak from Carers Victoria for an informative and inspiring talk on Caring for Yourself.

The session was a fantastic opportunity to bring local carers together, share valuable insights and highlight the support available through mecwacare's Support for Carers Program.

Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to make our Bass Coast community such a supportive place for carers.

A very happy 100th birthday to Norma!

Our Trescowthick Centre community gathered yesterday for a special happy hour to celebrate Norma’s incredible milestone.

There were some very special birthday messages to share, with letters from the King, the Prime Minister and the Governor-General read out to everyone.

Norma’s daughter, Aileen, also shared a few words about her beloved mum. Norma has always been active, walking everywhere and playing tennis until she was 86!

When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Norma’s answer was simple: “Don't worry.”

Happy 100th, Norma. We loved celebrating this special day with you and your family.

Melbourne Town Hall came alive last Thursday as we celebrated our 2026 mecGala, mecwacare’s annual Employee Awards!

It was a great night recognising the achievements of our people, hearing the stories behind the difference they make every day and simply enjoying time together as an organisation.

Individuals and teams were recognised across a range of award categories, including Care, Client Focus, Leadership Excellence, Innovation, Safety Culture and Team Excellence. We also celebrated our Service Award recipients, recognising milestones from 10 years through to an incredible 40 years with mecwacare!

Congratulations to all our award recipients and nominees, and thank you to everyone across mecwacare for everything you do each day.

Residents at Annie’s Court enjoyed a Mexican fiesta this week!

Our team got into the spirit in Mexican-inspired dress while residents enjoyed traditional cuisine. The piñata was a particular favourite, with residents excited to take part and see who could break it open.

What an exciting way to bring everyone together and experience a taste of Mexican culture through food and festivities!
