This is a call-out for volunteers to help us with a project.

We want to digitise more of the old District Council of Prospect Rate Assessment Books.

We digitised the books for the years 1872/73 to 1919/20 some years ago and they are a very useful source of information about housing, businesses and people in that era.

Now we wish to digitise the years 1920/21 to 1929/30.

This involves a two-step process:
1. Go to State Records at Cavan and use their equipment to photograph the books for each year
2. Enter the information from the books into an Excel spreadsheet

This will then get combined with the existing information into one consolidate database which is easily searchable.

Apart from the photography, this task can be undertaken in your own time, at home or in the Library.

The main requirement is to be confident in the use of Microsoft Excel.

With the cooperation of State Records, we will provide training at their premises in accessing the rate assessment books and photographing them.

You can pick one or the other task or both.

On Wednesday 20th May the Prospect Local History Group was honoured to be awarded a Community Service Award by the City of Prospect for significant voluntary contributions to the community. Neil Rossiter was also awarded individually for his work with the Prospect Air Raid Shelter. We are incredibly grateful to all of the volunteers that assist with the PLHG and make what we do happen. We thank the City of Prospect for the recognition, and acknowledge the other recipients of Community Service Awards on the night, and every volunteer out there that gives their time to community groups and projects. Volunteers have such a positive effect on all communities, and we're thankful to everyone
