Short Back & Sidewalks

Short Back & Sidewalks We provide free haircuts to Australians experiencing homelessness & poverty.

We work alongside service providers across Australia, providing friendly and attentive hair-cutting experiences with some of Australia’s best hairdressers and barbers as our volunteers. Short Back & Sidewalks currently operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Victoria. Our service goes beyond just giving free haircuts; we create meaningful connections through conv

ersations with clients, and create visibility for some of the most marginalised community members in Australia.

Australians are trying to get through a housing crisis that shows no sign of easing. Normal people who deserve to be seen as people, not statistics.

That’s where Short Back & Sidewalks comes in.

We turn up. We cut hair. We connect.

Because when the numbers keep going up, we need more people showing up.

Every donation allows us to do just that: https://donorbox.org/short-back-sidewalks

YES. WE CUT WOMEN’S HAIR TOO.

If you need us, we’re here.

A haircut can feel like nothing.

Until getting one isn’t an option.

Today, notice the things you get to take for granted.

Then ask yourself what you could share.

Your time. Your skills. Your chair. Your humanity.

A haircut won't end homelessness. We know that.

A fresh cut won't find someone a home.
It won't fix a broken system.
It won't erase trauma or years of doing it tough.

But it can do something powerful, it can remind someone they're worth sitting down for.

It can create a moment of dignity, open a conversation, it can rebuild trust.

And sometimes, it's the first step towards something better.

This Homelessness Week, we're reminded that ending homelessness takes governments, services, communities and all of us working together.

No big statements just what I’ve seen up close. It’s shifted how I see people, how I show up, and what actually matters. Still learning, still building and only just getting started on what’s to come.
