Emagn WA EmAGN WA unites Students, Grads, and Architects fostering a network to support Emerging Architects. b. c. d. e. f. g. h.

Western Australian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects' Emerging Architects + Graduates Network (EmAGN). Our mission:
To represent the interests of graduates and emerging architects on a local and national level by providing a representative front on key issues. Focusing on the transition from student to experienced architect, we aim to create a design community for graduates and eme

rging architects for their mutual support and to foster a collaborative culture that celebrates architecture. Objectives:
We represent the interests of graduates and emerging architects by:
a. Advocating for emerging architects and graduates on Chapter, Divisional and National Councils so that key needs, interests and concerns of this demographic may be considered and addressed. Nurturing productive local level committees and facilitating cross pollination of ideas, resources, education and energy nationally. Bridging the gap between the Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) and established professional Institute members. Encouraging Institute membership, engendering within graduates and emerging architects a sense of belonging to the Institute, and providing a platform for graduates to ‘merge’ into the profession with local and national support. Initiating and developing inspiring and relevant opportunities for all emerging architects and graduates. Developing new and building upon existing relationships with other young professional groups in Australia such as Young Engineers Australia (YEA) and Young Planners (YP) both on a local and national level for the benefit the broader professional demographic. Establishing and strengthening relationships with emerging architect and graduate groups within International architectural institutes such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), American Institute of Architects (AIA) & New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) for the purpose of cultural exchange, idea sharing and opportunity generation. Advocating for a strong future for architects and architecture in Australia.

Stories of Migration, Volume 1: On Seeing ✏️

On a quiet Saturday morning in Perth, we slowed down. We walked, we sketched, we listened and we shared.

Drawn to WA began with a simple invitation: to see place through new eyes. What unfolded was something more. Conversations about arriving, adapting, and belonging. About the journeys that shape not just where we live, but how we design the world around us.

Thank you to the incredible Libby Guj for bringing your stories, your sketchbook, and your warmth to this first gathering. And to every participant who showed up, opened up, and drew alongside us. This was made by you.

This is only the beginning. 🌿

🎤 APE Part 3 Mock Interview Night — and what a session it was!

Last week, we brought together candidates, mentors, and peers for a hands-on mock interview experience designed to build real confidence for the APE Part 3 process.

✅ Practice questions in an exam-style setting
✅ Critical thinking & communication skills sharpened
✅ Connections made, insights shared, community built

Because the best way to prepare is to practice out loud — together. 🤝

Whether you’re deep in your APE journey or just starting out, events like this remind us that we’re stronger as a profession when we support each other.

📌 Stay tuned for the next one.

archiNATION’s first Drawn to WA event, Stories of Migration is around the corner!

Volume 1: On seeing focusses on witnessing and interpreting place through a guided drawing and walking experience.

The session is also about sharing stories, particularly experiences of migration, movement and belonging. As participants stroll, sketch and talk, conversations may emerge around personal journeys: arriving in new places, adapting to unfamiliar environments, and how these experiences shape the way we see, understand and design place.

Our very special guest, Libby Guj is an architect and artist shaped by a life of global adventures, whose award-winning work across education, civic and social sectors reflects a deep commitment to people and place. Alongside her art practice, her travels to remote landscapes inform an ongoing practice grounded in observation, memory and lived experience, while she continues to contribute to the built environment, bringing a considered, caring and experiential approach to her work.
