Emagn WA EmAGN WA unites Students, Grads, and Architects fostering a network to support Emerging Architects. b. c. d. e. f. g. h.

Western Australian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects' Emerging Architects + Graduates Network (EmAGN). Our mission:
To represent the interests of graduates and emerging architects on a local and national level by providing a representative front on key issues. Focusing on the transition from student to experienced architect, we aim to create a design community for graduates and eme

rging architects for their mutual support and to foster a collaborative culture that celebrates architecture. Objectives:
We represent the interests of graduates and emerging architects by:
a. Advocating for emerging architects and graduates on Chapter, Divisional and National Councils so that key needs, interests and concerns of this demographic may be considered and addressed. Nurturing productive local level committees and facilitating cross pollination of ideas, resources, education and energy nationally. Bridging the gap between the Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) and established professional Institute members. Encouraging Institute membership, engendering within graduates and emerging architects a sense of belonging to the Institute, and providing a platform for graduates to ‘merge’ into the profession with local and national support. Initiating and developing inspiring and relevant opportunities for all emerging architects and graduates. Developing new and building upon existing relationships with other young professional groups in Australia such as Young Engineers Australia (YEA) and Young Planners (YP) both on a local and national level for the benefit the broader professional demographic. Establishing and strengthening relationships with emerging architect and graduate groups within International architectural institutes such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), American Institute of Architects (AIA) & New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) for the purpose of cultural exchange, idea sharing and opportunity generation. Advocating for a strong future for architects and architecture in Australia.

Have you ever wondered which Perth firms have stood the test of time? The Archi-bytes team did some digging and we were surprised by some of the results! The criteria used to put together this list are:

- Must have originated from, or merged with a West Australian architectural practice
- Still operates as an architectural practice

We hope you enjoy this episode.

✨ 3 Over / 4 Under 2025 — Highlights ✨

Last week, EmAGN WA hosted the 23rd annual ‘3 Over / 4 Under’ forum, and what an inspiring evening it turned out to be.

This year’s theme, “On: Spectrum,” invited us to explore the diverse ways design is felt, perceived, and expressed. Our incredible speakers — three established and four emerging practitioners — shared thoughtful, personal, and powerful reflections that reminded us just how multidimensional architectural practice can be.

A huge thank you to our speakers for generously sharing their stories, and to our sponsor for supporting this event and helping us create a space for learning, conversation, and connection.

Beyond the talks, the night was filled with great conversations, networking, and of course, delicious snacks in an amazing venue , that set the tone for a memorable evening.

Swipe through for some highlights from the night ➡️
Until next year! 🌙✨

Introducing Jeremy Marriott; our last 4 Under speaker for 3O4U No.23: On Spectrums.

Jeremy Marriott is driven by the belief that highly-considered built environments have the power to positively transform lives. He views the acceptance of diverse human attributes not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for genuinely inclusive architectural innovation. Across all phases of design, he prioritises insight before action, drawing on an accumulated knowledge of Disability, Psychology, and Architecture to support built environments that meaningfully respond to the needs of their users.

This philosophy led him to found Insight Architectural Consulting, where his work focuses on integrating human difference into the foundations of design thinking. His current research includes the development of an architectural design guide that explores how to address the complexities of Autism within the built environment. A first-principles thinker, he is also expanding his practice through the study of architectural hand-drawing for future application.

Introducing Jeremy Marriott; Our third 4 Under speaker for 3O4U No.23: On Spectrums.

While spectrums of colour, sound, temperature, and interest are commonly acknowledged in design, Jeremy challenges the profession to consider spectrums of human attributes. He invites others to rethink the question:

“How would you design for someone who…?”

— when that person experiences the world through a different set of sensory, cognitive, or behavioural needs.

Introducing Alice Ford; our second 4 Under speaker for 3O4U No.23: On Spectrums.

Alice Ford is an Australian interdisciplinary artist and architectural graduate who creates under the name Big Al (b. 1997). She uses techniques such as drawing, painting and collage to blur the boundaries between seen and unseen relationships between events, humans and the cosmos through strange-making, comedic absurdity, and curiosity. In an age of mass extinction, Al questions how we might re-entangle with the ecological. She works between a small cabin on Wadandi Country, and the University of Western Australia as a PhD candidate on Whadjuk Country. This doctoral research is supported by the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship.
