PlusLife

PlusLife All PlusLife tissue grafts are donated in Australia. Nearly 15,000 grafts have been distributed for more than 8,500 patients since the bank was established.

PlusLife (Perth Bone & Tissue Bank) is a not-for-profit organisation that retrieves, processes and distributes donated human bone and tissue for transplant purposes. As a registered charity and the only bone bank in Western Australia, PlusLife provides an essential service to the health sector. 75% of grafts are distributed to benefit patients in Western Australian and approximately 25% is sent to

interstate locations. Amongst the recipients are children and adolescents with spinal deformities, bone tumour patients (generally young people who have avoided amputation of a limb by receiving a graft); and many patients with arthritic joint disease caused by debilitating arthritis, whose mobility and general wellbeing has been improved by receiving bone grafts from PlusLife. We are very pleased to be back at the Australian Orthopaedic Association WA Annual Scientific Meeting, being held at the beautiful Pullman Bunker Bay Resort. We're looking forward to connecting with colleagues, catching up on the latest developments in orthopaedics, and being part of another great AOA WA event.

If you're attending, please stop by. We particularly welcome clinical input and the opportunity to discuss research and development opportunities. Our onsite Research Laboratory enables us to actively collaborate with clinicians and researchers and represents a significant investment in scientific infrastructure, purpose-engineered to support a broad spectrum of biomedical and life sciences research programs.

Turning a Routine Surgery Into a Life-Changing Gift 🙌

Did you know that during a routine hip replacement, you may be able to donate your femoral head?

This decision won't affect your surgery in any way — but the impact can be huge. Your donated bone could go on to support other patients undergoing procedures like bone tumour surgery or spinal surgery.

Being a donor is a rewarding, positive experience. And it's often as simple as saying yes.

Register today and help change someone's life for the better. Head to our website to find out more.

What a highlight it was attending the recent LifeSciencesWA Women in Life Sciences Lunch. Being in a room full of WA's brightest minds in research, biotech entrepreneurship and investment — all there to champion women in the sector — was such a privilege to be a part of.

The one line that has stuck with us is: A culture of active listening fosters patient-centred impact.

Big thanks to LifeSciences WA for hosting such a brilliant afternoon, and KE Select - Scientific & Medical Recruitment for thinking of us and getting us in the room. Events like this are what keep WA's life sciences community connected and thriving — we're already looking forward to the next one 🙏

A story worth resharing 🩷

In 2023, Colin De Grussa shared his life-changing experience of receiving donated bone from PlusLife.

From living with chronic back pain and struggling to walk 100 metres, to becoming pain-free and completing his first half marathon—Colin's story is a powerful reminder of the difference donation can make.

Stories like Colin's are why we do what we do. 🙌

DonateLife Week starts today!

Catch Nine News tonight at 6pm to hear about Colin De Grussa’s life-changing experience receiving a bone donation from PlusLife.

Before transformational surgery, the Agricultural Region MLC could not walk 100m without chronic back pain. Now he is pain free, and this year completed his first half marathon.

This DonateLife Week, Colin is urging more people have conversations with their families about their tissue and organ donation wishes.

Bone donation isn't something most people think about — but it makes a real difference for patients who need it.

At PlusLife we offer two programs:

Living Donor program: patients can opt to donate their femoral head (hip joint) during a routine hip replacement. One living bone donor can help up to 5 recipients.

Deceased Donor program: it is possible to donate bone and other tissue after you pass away. One deceased bone donor can help up to 20 recipients.

Donated bone can be used in different ways, from joint reconstructions to repairing serious injuries.

To find out more about our programs or register to donate, visit our website.

PlusLife acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work — the Whadjuk Noongar people — and pays respect to Elders past and present.

This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week: 50 Years of Deadly, and we're taking a moment to recognise the Elders, artists and communities who kept this movement going.

At PlusLife, we see how generosity and giving back can change someone's life through bone and tissue donation. That same spirit of community and looking out for each other is something we see and admire in NAIDOC Week. We're proud to be part of a WA community that includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 🖤💛❤️
