Last week, we held a 2-day workshop with our Birdiya Panel to lay the foundation for a Conflict Resolution Framework as part of the Aboriginal Family Safety Project.

This was an important step in strengthening the way we work through concerns—guided by cultural authority, respectful process, and community-led decision-making. We’re grateful to the Birdiya Panel for their time, wisdom and careful guidance throughout the two days.

A sincere thank you to Associate Professor Jocelyn Jones for her steady leadership of the process, and for holding the space in a way that supported thoughtful, respectful discussion.

We also want to acknowledge Heather and Philip from Anapana Ridge for their generosity and hospitality at Anapana Ridge, which helped create a welcoming environment for this work.

Further community engagement opportunities will be held later in 2026 as we continue to listen, learn and refine this framework in a way that reflects community expectations and strengthens safety for families.

This project is supported by the Department of Communities.

What a lovely way to start the year together. 🌿☕️

This week, Karlup Aboriginal Corporation hosted a team-building morning tea onsite at Karlup, bringing together our consortium partners from Wanslea and Indigo Junction, alongside the Karlup team.

We were honoured to have John Mogridge provide an Acknowledgement of Country, sharing a heartfelt yarn about local connections, community, and the importance of working together.
Moments like these remind us that strong relationships are the foundation of strong work. We’re looking forward to walking alongside local families, listening deeply, and providing the support that meets families where they’re at.

Together, we’re here for community. 🤝💛

Karlup Aboriginal Corporation is proud to share that we have been chosen to lead the Target 120 INROADS program for young people and families in the North-East Corridor of the metropolitan area.

This is a big moment for our community. For the first time, this program will be delivered by an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, placing culture, respect and local knowledge at the heart of the work.

Target 120 INROADS is a therapeutic early-intervention program that walks alongside young people who may be struggling or getting caught up in the justice system. The program aims to keep our young ones strong by supporting them to stay connected to family, culture, Country and community, while helping them make positive choices for their future.
Karlup will be working closely with Indigo Junction and Kids First Australia, building on our strong relationships and shared commitment to supporting families in our region.

Taking on this role is an honour. It reflects the trust our community places in Karlup and the belief that Aboriginal-led solutions create better outcomes for our young people.

We look forward to walking this journey together—supporting our kids, strengthening our families, and building a safer, healthier future for our whole community.

Birdiya Panel Members Stand Strong at the Midland March That Matters

On 5 December, several of our esteemed Birdiya Panel Members proudly participated in the Midland March That Matters, standing alongside community to raise their voices against Family and Domestic Violence.

We honour and acknowledge Aunties Janinne Gliddon, Brenda Larsen and Carrol Johns, who walked at the front of the mob behind the Police Pipe Band — a powerful and dignified presence symbolising leadership, cultural strength, and the unwavering commitment of our Elders to keeping families and community safe.
Their participation reminds us that healing, safety and change must be community-led, grounded in culture, and upheld by those who carry deep wisdom and responsibility.

We also extend our appreciation to the organisers of the event, convened by the Swan Family & Domestic Violence Network, for bringing community together to stand in solidarity and shine a light on the urgent need to prevent violence in all its forms.

Karlup Aboriginal Corporation is proud to support our Birdiya Panel Members as they continue to guide, influence and advocate for safer futures for our families.

Together, we stand strong. Together, we say: no more violence.
